city web 2.0

This is a map, an illustration, a model of the transcendence of the web and virtual spaces into the physical space of the city. It is a map of a journey away from my suburban home, seeking an alternative 'language,' an alternative model for human life.

Transcript of city web 2.0

ME living in suburbia parking lots fences garage doors wide roads surrounded by metal and glass junk spaces vacant side walks work from 7-5,
too tired too play traffic slow public transit culs-de-sac dream house lack of spontaneity Parts instead of a whole fragmented world Parts instead of a whole Hiding and organizing a city of police control rather than a truly livable city I see a city whose infrustructure is of consumption & a city of commodity the bureaucratic city working city <!DOCTYPE html>

a shift from the 'read-only' city I am seeking a city, whose streets are written with a language that allows me to write as well as read I have a found a virtual language a language that is both virtual and real it flows side by side with the cars on the highways and streets of the city a new space unlike suburbia or the city in cyberspace I bump shoulders with others it is a liminal space of contagion I am caught in a web of mess it is a space of paradoxes and contradictions here power is negotiated here, I can poor a bucket of beer on the heads of real world powers here I can see people what happens in cyberspaces... what doesn't happen in cyberspace ... happens in reality cyberspace has shaped a new type of literacy... remix culture has been democratized remix has also created a new literacy it has reactivated the flow of the city a space that promotes a 'read-write' culture a space that mediates the real city and the virtual world it is invisible, but has very real implications a language to write a new reality what happens in cyberspaces... here I come face to face with the rubbish cities hide ... everything happens ...in which people build a different culture of democracy in the world human networks are mobilized the web creates new mentalites people become collaborators of the city new levels of consciousness emerge standards of collaboration emerge places become human the city becomes organic people create physical links between spaces through virtual links people sidestep real world institutions through the web the online community has reactivated the very fine line of “public in between spaces” via the web potential of self-governance dialogue is opened up communities are created collectively people engage in conversations Each one taking what the other had done and adding to it, mixing it, and changing it, and engaging in a creative act
people reactivate physical spaces into spaces of dialogue altering social consciousness changing the culture of consumption creating a society built on sharing sharing is the nature of creation “This is not a world made up of passive consumers anymore, that era is over. This world is made up of collaborators. We can create and share, we can change laws, we can act!” it doesn't happen in isolation no one creates in a vacuum
