Transcript of Dionysus
His parents were Semele and Zeus. When Hera found out that Zeus had been with Semele she was furious and went in disguise to talk to her. Hera got Semele to admit that the father of the baby soon to come was Zeus. Hera called for Zeus and he came in with thunder and lightning which caused a fire. This sight scared Semele so much that it caused premature birth of Dionysus. Zeus then took baby Dionysus and sewed him in his thigh until maturity.
Dionysus is symbolized by this cross. Since he is the god of harvest and fertility this cross represents him well because every year the crops will grow, die and come back to life. Just like how Jesus grew up died and came back to life.
Dionysus was quite the god. He spent most of his time partying and expressing his wild sexuality. He is known for his drunkenness and madness. He also had a life giving side and a destructive side.

-This caused the pirates to jump overboard.

That's when Dionysus sailed the ship back to Naxos and met his wife Ariadne.
-Dionysus was the son of Zeus and Demeter.
-Hera was jealous of the child and convinced the Titans to destroy him (Dionysus).
-Although Dionysus was disguised as a baby goat the Titans still found him and tore him to pieces! They ate all of his body except for his heart that was saved by Athena.
-Athena then gave the heart to Semele to eat.

Dionysus told Pentheus of the wild things he could see if he went to the jungle disguised as a women. The king, Pentheus, dressed up as a woman went to the jungle and hid up in a tree. Dionysus went later that night to try and find Pentheus. While in the tree, the king saw a figure walking around. He pounces on it, thinking it was lion. He later found out that the "lion" he killed was Dionysus.
