The degree of compactness in a subject The closer or farther apart molecules are in a subject Relationship between Density and States of Matter Solid-Matter with a definite shape and volume The density of a solid when the the temperature increases will expand and become less dense but when cooled the density does not change. Temperature differences cause density differences resulting in differences in crustal features by the transfer of Heat energy and convection currents. The convection currents will bring hot matter up to the surface, effectively making the matter cool and changing density, or carrying away less dense matter. This will change crustal features by the movement of the matters pushing and pulling the crust. Density
(dictionary definition)- Density (own words)- Liquid- Matter that has a definate
volume but no definate shape. The density of a liquid ,when heated, becomes less and less until it its turned into a gas. When liquid is cooled however the opposite effect occurs.The liquid molecules will become denser and denser until the liquid is frozen. The Earth's system of ocean currents are caused by temperature differences, which in turn, are caused by solar energy, and convection currents. The solar energy warms the top of the water and makes the colder, more dense water, sink. The more dense water also has more salinity due to the solar energy's act of evaporation. This causes it to move creating deep ocean currents and the solar energy makes wind which causes the currents near the surface. The currents move and will cool or heat and rise and fall into a deep ocean current or one closer to the surface while moving creating the "Global Conveyor Belt." Gas- Matter that doesn't have a definite shape or volume; has particles that move at high speeds in all directions. When a gas is heated it will increase in volume, and decrease in density. When a gas is cooled it will increase in density. The temperature differences caused by solar energy often cause density differences. This is because the sun warms the earth's crust which in turn warms the air around it. The air rises because heat rises( becomes less dense) and when it reaches the upper parts of the atmosphere it then cools and falls down to Earth (becomes more dense). This also causes Convection currents and wind. The different Weather patterns are caused by temperature and density. The Air must have a High pressure(dense) ,or Low pressure(not as dense) to hold moisture resulting in weather patterns. Made by: Emma Hulce Works Cited
