Roman Belief System Polytheism Roman gods originated in the village Rome, where they were supposed to be helping the farmers with their work The large number of Roman gods can be explained with the belief in "numen", gods & spirit inhabit places, objects & living things Romans did not pay much attention to the personalities of their gods, however, their functions in daily life were important First, Christianity was considered a sect, originating from the Jews, and therefore ignored After some time, the Christiens became too powerful and too different, and Christianity was banned Feeding Christians to the lions was considered an entertainment Monotheism AD 313, Emperor Constantine made Christianity legal; until then, Christian meetings had to be held in the underground graveyards After some time, under the influence of the Etruscans and the Greeks, Roman gods became anthropomorphic
