She began writing poems and lyrics in 1850 - 1865
College years and prior
After Amherst Academy, she attended Mount Holyoke Female seminary for a year and left

Born: December 10, 1830 in Amherst, Massachusetts
Schooling: attended Amherst Academy until she was fifteen
Dickinson seldom left her house and had few friends.
The friends she did have had an enormous impact on her poetry
After leaving Holyoke she became much more private.
She had two siblings William Austin Dickinson and Lavinia Norcross Dickinson
Her first published poem was “Magnum bonum, harem scarum”
A valentine letter published in Amherst College Indicator, February
By the age of 35 she already had 1100 lyrics and poems written.
Death
She died in Amherst in 1886
None of her poems were recognized until 1890
