LANDSCAPE TO LUIGI SNOZZI IS VERY IMPORTANT, THE HOUSE HAS A STRIKING IMPACT ON THE EYE HOWEVER YET IT SITS COMFORTABLY WITHIN ITS SURROUNDINGS, ALMOST LIKE A HAND INTO A GLOVE, IT RESPECTS THE FORM OF THE LANDSCAPE AS THE GLOVE RESPECTS THE FORM OF YOUR HAND.
THE LOWER RIGHT IMAGE SHOWS HOW THIS IS ALSO A COMMON DEVICE IN LUIGI SNOZZIS WORK.
Botta worked with Snozzi during research into modernist architecture. The close proximity in which they worked has led to them having similar ideas and concepts in the way they design.
Snozzi uses symmetry to make the view over the house follow the same gradient of the hillside its situated on.
By ending the pergola at the same point that the upper balcony starts creates balance in the building.
Snozzi tends to locate the 'servant' spaces of the house in the northern end of the house and the 'served' spaces in the southern end of the house.
There also seems to be 'pods' of what seem to be storage cupboards that sit centrally on the two bottom floors, as well as the central bathroom on the top floor.
Snozzi splits private and living spaces between two floors. Private spaces such as the bedrooms are on the top floor, whilst the living room that leads out to the pergola is situated on the ground floor.
The entrance, being an undefined space is located on the basement and entrance floor below the living space.
