Transcript of DIGESTIVE SYSTEM

Types of NUTRIENTS
3. Absorption
After the food is digested, the human’s cells take up small molecules
Vitamins
and
inorganic materials
pass into the blood without
digestion.

MECHANICAL
Pieces of food are firstly cut, crushed, or broken into smaller particles without being changed chemically.

What is the
digestion?
The process of breaking down food
(nutrients)
into molecules the body can use
1. Ingestion
Food enters our body through mouth, or simple eating

DIGESTIVE SYSTEM
so why we need
nutrients
?
A nutrient is a substance required by the body for energy, growth, repair, and maintenance
STEPS OF DIGESTION
1. Ingestion of food
2. Digestion of polymers
3. Absorption of monomers
4. Elimination of waste

2. Digestion
When polymers or bigger molecules are broken down into simpler parts, into monomers

CHEMICAL
Foods are broken down into their monomers by enzymes and water.

4. Elimination
Undigested material is removed from digestive tract and body

b)CHEMICAL
