Monkey Trial By: Skye, Jen, and Kirsten In Dayton, Tennesse in 1925, there was a lot of people there due to monkey trial. Evolution is when people believe we developed from monkeys. The law was that teachers could not teach evolution. However, teachers ignored the law, so the government decided to go to court. The trial didn't solve much of anything, and they still went by the Bible. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) belives the law is unconstitutional. The ACLU was founded in 1920. The ACLU protects civil rights. The issue of monkeys keeps popping up. People dont take the issue seriously. The monkey trial is when John Scopes was charged because he was teaching evolution in his classroom. John Scopes went to jail and was charged 100 dollars. It was the best known trial of the decade. People don't take the issue seriously.
