What Can be Milled
- Lava Zirconia Frame materials provide flexibility and multiple size options for the production of Lava Zirconia frameworks and copings
3M ESPE Lava CAD/CAM is a wonderful system which is shared between Doctor and Laboratory. With this system both doctor and lab can work effectively and produce achievable restoration that the doctor and patient will be satisfied with.
Lava CAD/CAM, created by 3M ESPE, is a system that works with zirconia restorations. This system is offered to both the dentist and the dental laboratory. Lava consists of a chairside oral scanner, a Lava Scan ST scanner which is used by the laboratory, digital software, and a milling machine.
Guidelines For Use
-For crowns, have a 5-6 degree taper
-Every angle and internal edge should be rounded
-recommended to have shoulder finish lines with no bevels
-Clean mechanically and rinse with strong stream of
water--> remove debris, powder, and temp cememnt
-Air dry slightly so that the surface looks glossy

-no undercuts
-don't use any chemical agents after prep
-don't laser etch
-don't use eugenol cement
1. Clean with ultrasonic/steam cleaner and gently blow dry
2. Sand blast with Aluminum Oxide at 2 bar til surface is matte
3. clean off sand with alcohol and "dry with oil-free, moisture-free air. Don't use other chem agents"
4.Apply Scotchbond Universal Adhesive and scrub for 20 sec
5. Air thin until the adhesive doesn't move over the surface

-Not highly stain resistance in comparison to EMax

A CAD/CAM system that does not interact with other systems. A closed system obeys that of only its manufacturing. It is isolated by its own and will reject that of any other sort of software

What Can be Milled

System Components
1. Lava Scan ST Scanner
-Dentist would use the wand to scan the arches of the patient’s mouth, creating a digital impression
-can use the touchscreen monitor to instantly review impression with patient
-can complete a digital prescription and send to a dental lab

-model is placed into scanner
-entire arch is digitalized and displayed as a 3D model on the computer
-prepped margins are automatically detected
-software will design coping with a standard wall thickness
-shape can then be changed with virtual wax-knife
-unit is automatically fitted to edentulous area and space for the ceramic veneer is noted
-space for cement is also taken into account and can be adjusted
-once the coping is completed, a milling pathway is calculated

- What makes Lava Ultimate CAD/CAM stands out from all the rest is that it's a Resin Nano Ceramic containing approximately 80% (by weight) Nanoceramics particles bound in the resin matrix. .

- The ceramic particles are made up of three different ceramic fillers that reinforce a highly cross linked polymeric matrix.

- 1) non-agglomerated/non-aggregated 20 nanometer (nm) silica filler.

- 2) non-agglomerated/non-aggregated 4 to 11 nm zirconia.

- 3) zirconia/silica cluster filler (comprised of 20 nm silica and 4 to 11 nm zirconia particles)

- Lava is indicated for inlays, onlays, veneers, and full crown restorations, including implant supported crowns.
-design is sent to the milling center
-milled from pre-sintered Zirconia block
-3-unit bridge takes average of 50 mins
-restorations can be milled over night
-restoration is then coloured depending on the choice of shade
-it is then sintered in the Lava Therm to its final density
-the restoration is then sent back to the lab
6. Lava Ceram
-veneering process
based on VITA Classic range, there are 16-shades to work with
-sintering furnace
- Time display: displays time in hours and minutes of each program
- Button functions 1, 2, and 3: start of sintering programs 1, 2, and 3
- "stop button": stops the program
- information menu: process info of the current program.
- Green LED Blinking slowly means Furnace is in the drying phase
