How did the sinking of the Titanic affect Maritime laws? How did the Titanic sink? Where did the iceberg hit and where The Titanic : A Sunken Tragedy By: Jessica Castillo The Titanic had flaws before it even started her maiden voyage. The Titanic was capable of holding sixty-for lifeboats but only took forty-five with her. This cause many lives to be lost. Now every ship has to make sure that the proper amount of lifeboats are put on the ship. On April 14, 1912, also known as the day the Titanic sank, there was supposed to be an escape drill to make sure that the passengers knew what to do in case the ship were to sink. However, Captain Edward John Smith had canceled the drill because he thought that it was not needed. Because of what happened to the Titanic, now all ship are required to make sure all passengers know what to do in case of any type of emergency.
