Transcript of Tuesdays with Morrie

Life lessons learned from Morrie "Now that im suffering, i feel closer to people who are suffering than i ever have before" (50) This picture is showing the way that some people can help others in need because they understand that this person is suffering and is in need of help. Morrie states, "Now that im suffering, i feel closer to people who are suffering than i ever have before", he says this because he can now relate to other people who are suffering because he is also suffering himself. "Money is not a substitute for tenderness, and power is not a substitute for tenderness" (125) Morrie states "Money is not a substitute for tenderness, and power is not a substitute for tenderness", this picture shows this very well because you can't replace tenderness with money, you have to choose between the two and either go down the road with happiness, or the road with money, not both. "Life is a series of pulls back and forth. You want to do one thing, but you are bound to do something else." (40) This picture is a perfect example of the tension of opposites. In this picture, its showing two groups of people, they both want to win but one of them is bound to lose. In the book, mitch starts out as the kind of person who does what they want, he works long hours just to make money, but when he realizes what he is doing with his life, he learns that he is bound to reunite with his college professor and help him and learn from him untill his death. "The truth is, if you accept that you can die at any time, then you might not be as ambitious as you are." (83) "The truth is, if you accept that you can die at any time, then you might not be as ambitious as you are." this picture basicly explains itself, this cat didn't know it's limits, and ambition carried it up to the wires to get the birds, but this ended up on death coming upon the cat. When you start to think about death, it worries people, and when they understand that it could happen to them, they wont have so much risk and ambition to do things. "Don't let go too soon but, but don't hang on too long." (162) Letting go can be one of the hardest things in life, when you love something dearly, letting go is nearly impossible, but in this picture the woman is letting go of a butterfly which she cares for. Letting go of morrie is one of the hardest things for mitch, but when his time comes, mitch knows he cant hang on anymore and he must let go. "Aging is not just decay, it's growth" (118) This picture is showing the way this lady changes over time. From what it looks like, this lady has just changed in apperance, what we call "decay", but thats not what aging is. When moorie ages, he gets smarter and smarter. The more that he has to deal with over the years, the more he learns about life and about death, he doesn't just decay, he grows more than he would think. "Love is how you stay alive, even after your gone" (133) L "Forgive yourself before you die. Then forgive others." (164) Forgiveness is a very important thing in life, it's something we do for other people, but most improtantly, its something we do for ourselves. In this picture, the chains represent all of the bad things that this person has done, and the only thing that he has to do to get out of these chains is to forgive himself for what he has done, just like morrie has done with himself, once he knew he was dying, he forgave himself for what he has done and then he was able to forgive mitch for not keeping in touch with him all of these years. And now the most important quote to me OK this one's for Gabby

Somewhere over the rainbow
Way up high
And the dreams that you dreamed of
Once in a lullaby ii ii iii
Somewhere over the rainbow
Blue birds fly
And the dreams that you dreamed of
Dreams really do come true ooh ooooh
Someday I'll wish upon a star
Wake up where the clouds are far behind me ee ee eeh
Where trouble melts like lemon drops
High above the chimney tops thats where you'll find me oh
Somewhere over the rainbow bluebirds fly
And the dream that you dare to,why, oh why can't I? i iiii

Well I see trees of green and
Red roses too,
I'll watch them bloom for me and you
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world

Well I see skies of blue and I see clouds of white
And the brightness of day
I like the dark and I think to myself
What a wonderful world

The colors of the rainbow so pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces of people passing by
I see friends shaking hands
Saying, "How do you do?"
They're really saying, I...I love you
I hear babies cry and I watch them grow,
They'll learn much more
Than we'll know
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world (w)oohoorld

Someday I'll wish upon a star,
Wake up where the clouds are far behind me
Where trouble melts like lemon drops
High above the chimney top that's where you'll find me
Oh, Somewhere over the rainbow way up high
And the dream that you dare to, why, oh why can't I? I hiii ?

Ooooo oooooo oooooo To me, love is the most important thing in life, it is the one thing that truelly keeps people going and keeps there lives happy and satisfied. Love is the most important thing because it follows you no matter if your alive or if your dead. When my uncle died on christmas eve, it was almost like the love for him frim me and my family grew for him, because you never know how important someone is and how much you love someone untill there gone and out of reach.

There are two different parts to love, giving love, and recieveing love. When you give love to someone, you are giving them true meaning to life, your giving them happiness and satisfaction in there lives, but equally as important to giving love, is recieveing love. Recieving love can truelly change someones life, when you recieve love, you realize how good it feels and realize the importance of love and the importance of life. Somewhere over the rainbow by Israel Kamakawiwo Ole' Somewhere over the rainbow is a good example of Tuesdays with Morrie. In somewhere over a rainbow, it is talking about a place where he can go, a sort of loke paradise place where everything is perfect. In this paradise, everyone would live by the "rules" that morrie has, such as "Forgive yourself before you die. Then forgive others.", "Love each other or die.", "...the truth is...if you accept that you can die at any time--then you might not be as ambitious as you are." and many more. I believe that morrie's goal was to get everyone to be better people and to learn how to live life, which is why he spent the rest of his life trying to teach people to be like this.
