Transcript of Causes and Effects of Global Warming

What is Global Warming Why is it important to be aware of global warming? Causes of Global Warming Every single day, 70 million tons of carbon dioxide are released into our world’s atmosphere. Fun Fact Carbon dioxide is the primary greenhouse gas emitted by human activity. More electric devices are quickly flooding the market and because we don't have an auxiliary energy source, we resort to burning coal in order to generate electricity. Did you know that 40% of U.S. CO2 emissions come from producing electricity? Each day we release gargantuan amounts of carbon dioxide for our personal and commercial electric supply. Carbon Dioxide Emissions Deforestation These chemical fertilizers are nitrogen-rich and therefore affect the heat storage of croplands. Nitrogen oxide traps 300 times more heat than carbon dioxide and the excessive use of it creates dead zones in our oceans. Dead zones are basically areas that have little to no oxygen. In addition to that these chemical fertilizers cause high nitrate level groundwater which can pose serious health hazards to us. Increase in the use of chemical fertilizers on croplands Effects of Global Warming "The Great Barrier Reef off the coast of Australia is home to more than 400 kinds of coral". Global warming affects the reef in two major ways: coral bleaching, caused by ocean temperatures that have risen, and ocean acidification, which prevents corals from forming shells and skeletons because of the lack of ingredients. This could result in a mass extinction. Ecosystems in Australia Temperature in Northern Siberia Sea levels and ocean temperatures that are continually rising, are putting the people, economy, and the existence of Kiribati in danger, an island made of corals in the Pacific. All of these alterations are caused by global warming. Rising sea levels in The Republic of Kiribati Global warming is the rise in the average temperature of Earth's atmosphere and oceans since the late 19th century and its projected continuation. Global Warming is causing drastic and unwanted change in our planet which could potentially harm different species and habitats. Global Warming is definitely something we need to pay as much attention as possible to. 1.Carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuel burning power plants Deforestation is usually caused by the need for fuel but more often than necessary we destroy forests for paper products and for commodities and luxuries like obtaining palm oil. These forests take and store CO2 from the atmosphere and when we destroy them, all of this carbon dioxide is released. 1. These lakes release big stores of methane when the frozen ground underneath them melts. As a result, this methane rises to the surface and it is highly flammable. 1.www.theglobalistreport.com 2.foreignpolicyblogs.com
