The light bulb
Transcript of The light bulb
The introduction of electricity in homes had a rather unexpected consequence of changing people's sleep patterns. Instead of going to bed at nightfall and sleeping in segments throughout the night separated by periods of wakefulness, we now stay up except for the 7 to 8 hours allotted for sleep, and we sleep all in one go.
The impact of the light bulb
More labor hours
Safety in the workplace
The bulb is a great invention, use is everyday. Imagine a world without light bulbs would be totally different. I think the light bulb came to change part of the people, thanks to this invention can perform activities in the absence of natural light.
When all you have is natural light, productivity is limited to daylight hours. Light bulbs changed the world by allowing us to be active at night. According to historians, two dozen people were instrumental in inventing incandescent lamps throughout the 1800s; Thomas Edison is credited as the primary inventor
Edison had to invent a total of seven system elements that were critical to the practical application of electric lights as an alternative to the gas lights that were prevalent in that day.
1. The parallel circuit
2. A durable light bulb
3. An improved dynamo
4. The underground conductor network
5. The devices for maintaining constant voltage
6. Safety fuses and insulating materials
7. Light sockets with on-off switches
Parts Of The Light Bulb
There are currently three types of bulbs, each with its own characteristics...
Incandescent Light Bulbs
Are classic bulbs, lifetime. Edison invented over a hundred years ago, the principle that emit light remains the same then.
Unlike incandescent bulbs, halogen lamps provide superior durability and light output to be chemically treated.
Energy Saving Light Bulbs
It is the type of bulb that has grown in recent years, as there are new designs that can be adapted to ordinary lamps. Its composition is different from incandescent and halogen. Its interior is filled with mercury vapor.
Thomas Alva Edison
"Genius is ten percent inspiration and ninety percent perspiration"
American Inventor, the coolest of the modern era. He received important contributions to the industrial development of the country and improving the welfare and living conditions of millions of people, the figure of Edison stands as a model of tenacity, as an example of the value of effort and work.
October 21, 1879
In April 1879, Edison research addressed electricity. After patenting and publicize the light bulb, Edison set out to perfect it and also make the dynamo to generate direct electric current.
The October 21, 1879 Edison made the first public demonstration of the incandescent bulb with 3000 people gathered in Menlo Park in 1882 and opened in New York City, the first power plant in the world for street lighting.
Before the invention of the light bulb, daylight extended only through the use of campfires, candles and gas lamps.
