Where is the Sarno River?
Sarno River, Italy
The Sarno River is located in Sarno Italy. The Sarno river begins at the base of Mt. Sarno. It then empties out into the Gulf of Naples.
No technologies are being used but the one thing that will need to be given are incentives to the factories to stop dumping trash and waste in the the river.
Pollution in the Sarno
The Sarno River is 15 miles long or 24 kilometers.
The Sarno River has been polluted for over twenty years. The pollution started building up in the late 80's and early 90's
There are 750,000 people inhabiting areas near the Sarno River.
Wild life has been effected in a horrible way. There is toxic mud on the river bed that prevents the formation of a barrier for animal and plant diffusion. There is lack of oxygen which made meadows and sea grass disappear.
The Sarno river is very unsafe. Feces in the river causes lung, brain, bladder, and stomach tumors. It causes an increase in Hodgkin lymphoma. There is a high percentage of respiratory apparatus, pathologies, dermatitis, chronic poisoning due to heavy metal, brucellosis, and typhoid fever. The river is, by law, considered unfit for bathing.
There are no specific plans to clean the river, but it will take two years clean up 1,200,000 cubic meters. They will also need to stop factories from dumping waste in the river.
