He spent his typical day:
I heard the four o'clock mass (in the morning) if there was one or I studied my lessons at the same hour and heard mass afterward. Upon returning, I looked for mabolo fruit in the grove... took my breakfast (a plate of rice and two fried sardines) ...went to class which was over at ten. I went home immediately...
I went back to school at two and was out at five... I played for a while with cousins before going home... studied my lessons after supper... said our prayers....
schooling in Ateneo:

June 10,1872, Rizal was accompanied by Paciano from Binan to Manila
For being frail, late and small for his age (11 yrs old), he was first refused but through the help of Manuel Xeres Burgos, nephew of martyr priest, the college registrar Father Magin Fernando, finally allowed him to register
With the inspiration particularly given by Father Francisco Sanchez, Rizal had very high grades (all excellent) and won prizes in various contest; hence, he , "the pride of Jesuits". graduated with the degree of Bachelor of Arts (with highest honors.)

Sad experience. while walking on the street one evening, Rizal then, a freshmen medical student, failed to see and greet the "alferez" a courteous "buenas noches". Because of this, he was mercilessly struck with a sword at the back.

Execution of the three martyr priests because they were falsely accused or implicated in the cavite mutiny.

-Rizal was also saddened by the fact that:
1. the method of instruction was absolete and undemocratic;
2. Filipino students were unjustly treated and;
the professors were unfriendly to him and the native students.
-Disgusted by the suffocating and hostile atmosphere and method of instruction of the UST, Rizal finally decided to leave for Spain to continue his medical studies.
