The following trends may include: Aging population
Awareness increased for the needs of people with disabilities
Survival rates from accidents and injuries are greater
Emphasis on health promotion and prevention to keep health care costs low have increased
Frequent mental health and family problems
Modification in work conditions for instance, job stress and early retirement
Informal public concern towards health and health concerns Occupational Therapy has developed from hospital environments to community care or the comforts of your home where people can explain concerns within their own happy median. OT’s may hold roles as a researcher, clinical specialist, administrator, consultant or educator. The profile of Occupational therapists the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT) has revealed the increase of private practice of therapists in that field. There are approximately 25% were private practice members in CAOT in 2000, a substantial increase from 3% back in 1990. https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=images&cd=&docid=STy55mOGGX6LIM&tbnid=TfqPWVbn1_JCtM:&ved=0CAUQjRw&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.frohnclass.com%2FChemistry%2Fkinetics.htm&ei=OylaUfn1Jcea2AWKt4GQBA&bvm=bv.44442042,d.b2I&psig=AFQjCNG5mOndav_3dPX3b2bPB0fWSC1eFw&ust=1364949682881271 Lots of heart work put into this career Occupational Therapists may act as consultants in assisted technology by consulting/ advising government and areas of industry include health policy, disability management and vocational rehabilitation. I believe finding a job in this spectrum will be easier because of the aging population from the 1930s baby boomers, who are now growing older, may need assistance with their everyday routines and the demands for private health care are increasing. https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=images&cd=&docid=oUu-5zoknDa4vM&tbnid=kLF3jNw2TYR3jM:&ved=0CAUQjRw&url=http%3A%2F%2Fdacsc.org%2Fother-programs%2Fassistive-technology%2F&ei=6jhaUc3RC4jw2QXMooG4Ag&bvm=bv.44442042,d.b2I&psig=AFQjCNF0A2qtMwFbh20MGDy0wEMfvLGaqg&ust=1364953672553433 https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=images&cd=&docid=wg6srVhny1f8kM&tbnid=WvZuC7hQ-SJ0jM:&ved=0CAUQjRw&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.loftonspace.com%2Fnews%2Fkevin%2FOn_08%2F29%2F2012%2Fwhat-is-assistive-technology%2F&ei=wzlaUbf_M4bL2QXg1oGgBA&bvm=bv.44442042,d.b2I&psig=AFQjCNF0A2qtMwFbh20MGDy0wEMfvLGaqg&ust=1364953672553433 Wheelchairs, walkers, power scooters allow easy transportation for patient Electronic devices enable enhanced understanding and assistance to those who need them https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=images&cd=&docid=WC_s6-Kp3JuL9M&tbnid=C97n3yERZ8Gr0M:&ved=0CAUQjRw&url=http%3A%2F%2Fallhealthcare.monster.com%2Ftraining%2Farticles%2F10-career-guide-occupational-therapist%3Fprint%3Dtrue&ei=3jtaUfP0Comx2QXx8YCQDQ&bvm=bv.44442042,d.b2I&psig=AFQjCNFyAiOfQnwjxgxxP6uJu6B42FUJAQ&ust=1364954440164508 https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=images&cd=&docid=8G6sS3l6o_mHpM&tbnid=PcxX86POCgDC8M:&ved=0CAUQjRw&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.lpch.org%2FclinicalSpecialtiesServices%2FClinicalSpecialties%2Frehab%2Fot.html&ei=FDxaUcnaJuag2gWGhIDoDA&bvm=bv.44442042,d.b2I&psig=AFQjCNGPgYtp_zQRJSSf3-EpI8CDBPIOgw&ust=1364954505952930 I’m not completely sure to who I’ll be working for but I’m aiming for small town work ethics in this field because my mother was an OT ( later on a Case Manager) who’d worked locally providing and suggesting care to those in her community. She has inspired me to peruse in a career like this because of her high standards of care and compassion to others. It resembles that I will be extremely devoted to the care and support towards the people I’ll meet and converse with, I’ll be able to use my skills outside of the workplace and demonstrate my skills to people I happen to meet in any location there is. A Good Fit to Get ‘r Done I believe I’m fit for the career I’m interested in because........ back in the Temperament Colour Rating Quiz, my highest colour rating was gold with a score of 109. Gold defines me as:
responsible and desiring to full fill duties and obligations, which I aim for everyday in school
I act upon organizing and structuring myself and others is another one of my traits to sort out discrepancies with others through support, planning and suggestion. This applies towards the daily practices with people who are in need of assistance and company through this occupation.
I practice my knowledge I’ve learned in school, in the real world as well to keep myself alert, interested and up to date in subjects such as the sciences.
I demonstrate sensibility by filling all parts of the spectrum of what I’m explaining to gather the pros and cons of their decisions that they’re trying to conclude by helping them make the right choice.
I reflect the need to share the load of work/involvement in all areas of which I participate in. I demonstrate this through using up my time for others who request help and go forward with solving or assisting their situation
I fit the gold area very well because it describes me exactly how I am, dependable, cultural maintenance, loyal and faithful to the following concepts of friends, family and home. The other colours that had followed were; blue (64), orange (60) and green (56) One of my multiple intelligences strengths is naturalistic. I enjoy the beauty of nature and admire the placement of flora and fauna all around us. Beach walks, hiking trails and wading through the water are some of the many activities I participate in to get closer and discover nature using all five senses. I find that it’s easier for me to learn and understand information through hands on interactions and activities. When I am involved in conversations or activities based on nature, I usually relate and participate by demonstrating skills I’ve already learned about either from a previous lesson, informational T.V episode or experiences from my life into the situation. https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=images&cd=&docid=DKIfXT4BuAqU9M&tbnid=IOorLsw7EvXUCM:&ved=0CAUQjRw&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwall.facebookvideotomp3.com%2Fanimal-species-of-the-animal-desktop-wallpapers-hd.html&ei=60taUej4NaSE2wXuyIDQBg&bvm=bv.44442042,d.b2I&psig=AFQjCNER4mATHROnxmhPnPP2Byrjf4CAbQ&ust=1364958563779879 https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=images&cd=&docid=XMJFjZrbsXIz5M&tbnid=QvbVGzgYSwnl_M:&ved=0CAUQjRw&url=http%3A%2F%2Fcommons.wikimedia.org%2Fwiki%2FFile%3AEast-Gippsland-Rail-Trail-Sign-2%2C-near-Bruthen%2C-30.08.2008.jpg&ei=iExaUZatAqPD2AWg44GgBQ&bvm=bv.44442042,d.b2I&psig=AFQjCNFxd_sNRHqngsuAiWsJw_qzw8_jEw&ust=1364958708792276 How to become an OT Master’s degree in occupational therapy (2yrs)
