There are two big Autumn festivals in the UK.

But, in the UK there
is another festival.

It is called
Bonfire Night

It is on the
How do we celebrate
Bonfire Night?
We build a bonfire!
We watch fireworks!
We play with sparklers!
We eat baked potatoes...
Toffee apples...
...and Parkin cake.

We feel warm
on the cold night
But we also call it
Guy Fawkes Night
...and we burn
a model of
Guy Fawkes
Who is Guy Fawkes?
There is a famous story.
Do you know it?
Guy Fawkes
The Gunpowder Plot
It is the year 1605.
King James is
unpopular with
some people.
13 men want to
assassinate
the king
They go to the
Houses of Parliament
in London. The king is meeting the
Government
there.
They put
barrels
of
gunpowder
under the Houses of Parliament.
They want to
blow up
the king
and the Government.
One man is a
soldier
.
His name is Guy
Fawkes.
He
guards
the
gunpowder.
One man is unhappy because
his brother works in the Houses of Parliament. He writes a
warning letter
to his brother.
The man`s brother reads the
letter. He is scared.
The man`s brother
gives
the letter to the king. The king
learns about
the assassination. He is scared.
The king`s soldiers look for the gunpowder.
The soldiers
find
Guy Fawkes.
Guy Fawkes is
ready to light
the gunpowder.
The soldiers put
Guy Fawkes in
prison
.
Guy Fawkes
confesses
to
treason
.
It`s a very
serious crime
.
Guy Fawkes
fails
to remove the king...
