The History of
The Awakening of the Hero
In 1998 Nintendo rocked the gaming globe with their first 3D installment in the franchise- Ocarina of Time. It is often considered the best game of all time, and was awarded Game of the Year in 1998. It follows another incarnation of Link, who must save the kingdom of Hyrule from an impending doom. In the beginning, Link must locate the 3 Spiritual Stones to open the Door of Time, from the promise of the Princess Zelda. Once you do, you get the Master Sword. But the problem is... when you pull it from it's pedestal, you are locked in the Silent Realm, because your body and spirit where to young to wield the Master Sword. So after 7 years, you are finally old enough (19) to become the Hero of Time. The problem is, once you step outside, it's obvious you've already failed your quest. You must set things right and defeat the darkness brewing over Hyrule. It set the standard for games, each game trying to get to the outright awesomeness of Ocarina.
Era of Twilight
Ganon has escaped, and he's back for more.
He used Zant, the King of
the Twilight, to overthrow Hyrule, plunging it into
Twilight. Midna, the
Princess of Twilight, used her dark magic
(gained from her descendants,
the Interlopers) to help a young boy from
Ordon, (a descendant of the
Hero of Time)who had been trapped into
the Twilight. With that he
turned into an awesome wolf and was basic
ally super cool. Twili legend
had said the Hero of Light would take the f
orm of a sacred wolf.
(YAAAAY) In this case, Midna struck a de
al with him. In order to be a
human again, he had to help her gather t
he Fused Shadow. With the aid
of Zelda, Link found the Master Sword, w
hich released the curse on him
and regained his human form. In order to
get into the Twilight, the duo had to collect the pieces of the Mirror of Twilight, which Zant broke. Some Zelda stuff happened and Link killed Zant and Ganondorf.
Where it all began
In 1986, Nintendo released a new game on the Famicom Disc System, (outside of Japan it was on the NES) It was called

the Legend of Zelda, and

it revolutionized the gaming world.

It was the first game of its kind to have a save feature, meaning the player could stop playing and come back later, where they left off. It was a simple game, about a hero named Link who had to save Princess Zelda from the evil Ganon, and collect the pieces of the Triforce of Courage. Little did anyone know it would spawn a huge series, critically acclaimed for being the most legendary games.
The Era of the Sky
Skyward Sword was the special game celebrating the 25th anniversary of the franchise. It is first in the timeline, and it tells the story of the creation of the Master Sword. Link must descend to the surface world in order to save the world from Demise. Along the way, his helper/sword Fi, is really annoying. His childhood friend (possible love interest? >:3 ) Zelda turns out to be the goddess Hylia, who shed her mortal form to save the world. Eventually, Link must gather all 3 pieces of the Triforce to grant the wish that will either save or end the world. Skyward Sword is renowned for many things, including Link himself. He's sorta like a mash-up of Twilight and Wind Waker. He's got a comical personality and is humble and brave. The gameplay was good, and it incorporated the motion controls flawlessly. Although you may look a bit stupid swinging around the remote. And something to note is he is the first Link to have pants.
The Split in the timeline
This is where the Timeline can go 3 ways. The Child Timeline, when Link warns Zelda of the upcoming doom, the Adult timeline, which happens after Zelda sent Link back in time, and the Fallen Timeline, where Link had died.
The Hero's Departure
Majora's Mask is one of the creepiest games I've ever played. (excluding horror games.) This follows Link on a personal journey, looking for Navi. Link was in a mysterious woods when the Skull Kid and Tatl and Tael stole his horse and his ocarina. Link chased them off into a portal into an alternate dimension of Hyrule, called Termina. Many strange things happen, and as you play on, you notice the sky. Oh dear lord the sky. The huge problem, and your main motivation, is to save the world from an impending moon crash. But dear god, why does the Moon have to look so scary? That right there is my scarred childhood.
The Era of the Four Sword
Second in the trilogy, Four Swords/Minish Cap tell the tale of Vaati, an evil wind Sorcerer who wants nothing but power. He kidnaps any beautiful girl he liked. Many knights had tried to ambush his fortress and failed, and when all hope seemed lost... a young boy with nothing but a little sword appeared. He struck down Vaati, sealing him away in the Four Sword. When the girls where rescued, they claimed the boy (Link, if you couldn't tell) had spilt into four. No one believed them, but they called the blade the Four Sword nonetheless. Link had a magic cap named Ezlo who was alive and stuff. (He looks like a bird :3 ) So that was cool. It also gave him to shrink to the size of a Minish. Minish Cap was actually developed by Capcom. So yea.

The Child Timeline
Not stressed out enough yet? Well, you only have 3 days to do so. So, some Zelda stuff happens, and you save the world. But after playing, you probably have a lot of questions. "Why is the inside of the moon a field?" "Why is the Happy Mask Salesman so weird?" "Is Ben real?" Well, my friend, that is up for you to decide. And the internet.
(Oh, and FYI Ben isn't real peeps. Get a hobby.)
Era of Shadow
Hundreds of years later, after Ganon's death, the Gerudo finally cam to terms with the Hylians, ending their brutal relationship. However, a new Ganondorf was born into the tribe, and violated their taboo on the Ancient Pyramid. He stole the Trident and the
Dark Mirror. The mirror had served as prison for the Dark Tribe. Ganon released evil back into the world and created a Shadow Link, an evil doppelganger of the hero. Once again, a new hero pulled the Four Sword out of it's pedestal, breaking the seal and splitting into four. The four fought their way, killing
Vaati and Ganon in the process, making Hyrule peaceful once again.
The Adult Timeline
The Era of the Great Sea
The story begins with Link, the lazy island boy waking up to his birthday. Hyrule is now a huge ocean, flooded by the gods. Unluckily, his birthday didn't go as planned. The Helmeroc King flew to his island, holding the pirate girl Tetra in it's claws. After Link saved her, the bird mistook his little sister, Aryll for Tetra and flew off with her. Link traveled the Great Sea, searching for his sister, and later, to save the world. This is by far my favorite entry in the series. The cell-shaded graphics and the cartoon-y art style turned some off, but people who bothered to buy it where amazed. The controls are arguably the best in any game, and the story is awesome. Plus Toon Link is arguably the cutest Link ever. :3
After defeating Ganondorf, Link and Tetra set out on a new voyage. They reached the waters of the Ocean King in search of the Ghost Ship. Unluckily, Tetra got kidnapped by the ship and was turned to stone. Link eventually saved her, and gathered the 3 Sacred Metals to power up his Phantom Sword in order to slay the evil controlling the Ghost Ship and terrorizing the Great Sea. Phantom Hourglass is the first DS Zelda game, and I feel it's underrated. It's certainly not the best, but it's not horrible. It was the first Zelda game I ever bought with my own money, and I beat it in 3 months, which was a record at the time for me. :3
The Era of the Great Voyage
The Era of Hyrule's Rebirth
Tetra and Link eventually landed on a new continent, where the Tower of Spirits towered over the landscape. Tetra and Link founded a new kingdom there, connected by the Spirit Tracks. But a century later, the tracks started to disappear.... Link, an engineer-in-training, was reciving his certification to be the Royal Engineer Zelda told him to meet her in her room. She tells Link the Spirit Tracks are fading, and she wants his help to get her to the Tower. Of course, not everything goes as planned, as the tracks disappear, and Link's train de-rails. Chancellor Cole kills Zelda and injures Link. Turns out she isn't totally dead... she's just a spirit. Zelda stuff happens and eventually Zelda and Link save the New Hyrule.
The Fallen Hero Timeline
Era of Light and Dark
One night, Link was sleeping, minding his own business when he heard a voice, calling for help. Link notices that his uncle has left and he hurries after him. But he's too late. His uncle had tried to rescue the voice, (aka Princess Zelda) but got killed by a Dark Knight. Link took his Sword and saved the Princess. She informed his that Agahnim was planning to sacrifice 7 girls in order to gain the Triforce. She was going to be the 7th. Link agreed to save the world from Agahnim's evil intentions and eventually slayed him, and wished for peace on the Triforce. A Link to the Past, for the SNES, was a huge hit. It skyrocketed Zelda into popularity, and is a classic.
Adventure in Holodrum/Labrynna
***The Oracle of Ages and it's sister game, Seasons, have a very similar plot, so I'm going to describe it as one.***

The 2 Godesses, Din and Nayru are captured, sending the worlds into chaos. Din controlled Seasons, and Nayru who controlled Time. Link saved them and brought the worlds to peace. This was parA cool thing about Ages/Seasons is that if you link up both games, you can unlock Ganon.
Hero's Adventure within a Fleeting Dream
Sometime after the Oracle games, Link decides to set out on a journey across the ocean. Unluckily, he is stuck in a storm and is washed onto Koholint island. He must wake the Wind Fish in order to get off. But there's a catch... once Link wakes the Wind Fish, it turns out Kohlolint was his dream. When the Wind Fish wakes, Koholint, the Dream World, is gone. This is a creative little title for the Gameboy, and one of my favorite handheld games ever, other thatn Pokemon Blue, of course.
A few hundred years later, Princess Zelda and her friend Link decided to check on the seal, when a dark figure appeared and grabbed Zelda. The seal had been weakening so Vaati had enough strength to escape. After Vaati planned out loud their wedding (creep), Link removed the Four Sword and split into Four, each with Link's own personality trait. Green was aggressive, Blue had a VERY short temper, Red was cute and annoying, and Vio was quiet and serious. They killed the Wind Mage, and saved the Princess Zelda. Four Swords and it's sequel were the only Zelda games that featured a multiplayer option. In fact, it's better if you play in a group. It's a fun thing to do with friends.
The Era of Decline
Hyrule was in a golden era for a while, but as always, good things must come to an end. When the King died, he needed someone to take it. But his son was not cut for it, so he split it into 3 parts. Many years later an evil attacked the kingdom and stole the Triforce of Power. Zelda in fear, split her Triforce of Wisdom into 8 and commanded her nursemaid to search for a man with enough courage to defeat the evil. Impa eventually found Link. Link set out, looking for the 8 shards in order to defeat Ganon. Which he did, of course.
Hero's Quest to Reunite the Triforce
Although Link killed Ganon, his minions remained. They needed the blood of the Hero- or, Link. One day a strange mark appeared on the back of his hand on his 16th birthday. Link now had the power to awaken the cursed Princess Zelda. He had to locate the Triforce of Courage to do so. As he fought his way through Hyrule, his final battle was a duel with his shadow. After that, he gained the Triforce of Courage.Link saved Zelda, and Ganon was prevented and peace finally returned to Hyrule.
Legend of Zelda is a game from my childhood, and one I'm still hooked on even now is the Legend of Zelda. It has been going on for 28 years now. Link is the main hero, (right) and is synonymous with heroism. Any sane person knows who he is, and he is arguably the 3rd most famous video game icon, after Mario and Pikachu.

Zelda games are known for being some of the best of the best. Many have gotten 10/10 on some game reviews. It is critically acclaimed to have some of the best music out of any video game series, the main theme being very well known. Any gamer has played Zelda, and loved it.

Link is one of the most popular heroes ever. He received a star on the Walk of Game in 2005, along with Shigeru Miyamoto, his creator. He was voted into the top ten of the 50 retro gaming heroes. Game Informer nominated Link the Hero of 2006. CNET crowned him the second top videogame character of all time in 2009. Nintendo Power declared him as their second favorite hero, being "one of gaming's most enduring heroes."
