Vestigial Structures- Evolution
Transcript of Vestigial Structures- Evolution
support evolution? Vestigial Structures by Nina Su, Zack Katz, Mariana Munoz, & Renato Belouche Vestigial structures provide a clue to the evolutionary history of a species because they are remnants of structures found in the ancestral species. Vestigial structures refer to an organ or part which is greatly reduced from the original ancestral form and is no longer functional or is of reduced or altered function. The evidence.... A vestigial structure in humans is the appendix.
According to the evolution theory the appendix became just a small trace of the large useful organ. The appendix, the ear muscles, and the third eyelid, or nictitating membrane, are supposed to be organs once used by man at an earlier evolutionary stage In animsomeals, such as the rat and the rabbit, the appendix is quite large and functions as a digestive organ. In an some animals, such as the rat and the rabbit, the appendix is quite large and functions as a digestive organ.
Some evolutionists believe man once had such an appendix, but when his food habits changed he no longer used it. Because fossils of ancient man consist only of bones, there is no way to determine what the appendix of such early men was like. In other words, a vestigial structures is organ or part that a species once used before evolution which still exists in the species, but is no longer used by it. for example: contraversy! Work Cited
http://www.darwinismrefuted.com/embryology_02.html The list of vestigial organs that was made by the German Anatomist R. Wiedersheim in 1895 included approximately 100 organs, including the appendix and coccyx. As science progressed, it was discovered that all of the organs in Wiedersheim's list in fact had very important functions. For instance, it was discovered that the appendix, which was supposed to be a "vestigial organ," was in fact a lymphoid organ that fought infections in the body. This fact was made clear in 1997:
Controversy! Controversy!! Controversy!! There is a big controversy on the discovery of actual vestigial structures, for here is a clear example of scientists testing a theory Despite the controversy , most evolution scientists continue to believe the Vestigial system theory and its connection to evolution
