To Kill A Mockingbird
Quote #1
"You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view... Until you climb into his skin and walk around in it."
- Atticus Finch, TKAM Chapter 3,pg 30
Life Lesson Quote
“Life's hard. It's even harder when you're stupid.”-John Wayne
TKAM: Movie Clip
This movie clip describes the biggest event took place in chapters 16-21, when the children save Atticus.
Atticus Finch is basically stating that you will never know who a person really is or what a person is like unless you actually become them.
Jordan Favors
Quote #2

“Remember it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird.” That was the only time I ever heard Atticus say it was a sin to do something, and I asked Miss Maudie about it.
“Your father’s right,” she said. “Mockingbirds don’t do one thing but make music for us to enjoy . . . . That’s why it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird.”
-TKAM, Atticus Finch, Ms. Mauldie, Chapter 10, pg. 90

This quote is my favorite because it relates the title of the book to a character of the book. The "mockingbird" makes me think of Boo Radley because he doesnt harm anyone. In fact, he even covered Scout with a blanket when she standing outside his home. Even though he is misunderstood, I feel that the innocence of the mockingbird compared to Boo Radley is genius.
Jordan Favors
Quote #3
"Atticus had said it was the polite thing to talk to people about what they were interested in, not about what you were interested in."
- TKAM, Scout Finch, Chapter 15, pg. 154
I think what Scout was trying to explain was that if you really want to impress a person, talk about the things you know their interested in and the ease on into your interests.

Life Instruction Booklet
“Instructions for living a life.
Pay attention.
Be astonished.
Tell about it.”
― - Mary Oliver
Life Lesson Quote
This quote applies to Bob Ewell. Bob made his life 10x harder based on the stupid decisions he made. Be careful of your desicions and notice the consequences, You may be causing it on yourself.
This quote I feel applies to the book because I feel there was lots of moments where I felt that Scout could pay more attention to the way she speaks and acts. I feel the entire book was Scout telling her life.

Vocabulary

1. formidable- wicked; disrespectful
"From any angle, it was formidable." ch. 13, pg.171
The rest of the day was formidable, as it was already beginning harshly.

Chapters 16-21
"You'll simply have to accept things the way they are."
- Atticus Finch, TKAM Chapter 14,pg 137
2. acrimonious- angry; hostile
Atticus is talking to Aunt Alexandria, but this quote applies to all people who try to come in and change everything to fit their wants.
3. brash- aggressive: arrogant
"Apparently Mayella's recital had given her confidence, but it was not her father's brash kind..." ch.18, pg.181
He was known as brash and outspoken, yet a timid person infront of females.
5. unmitigated- pure, absolute
"And so quiet, respectable, humble Negro who had the unmitigated tenerity to 'feel sorry' for a white woman has had to put his word against two white peoples"
- Atticus Finch, Chapter 20, pg. 204, TKAM
4. iota- a bit; very small amount
"The state has not produced one iota of medical evidence to the effect that the crime Tom Robinson is charged with ever took place." Chapter 20 pg. 203
Quote #2
"Which, gentlemen, we know is in itself a lie as black as Tom Robinson's skin, a lie I do not have to point out to you. You know the truth, and the truth is this: some Negroes lie, some Negroes are immoral, some Negro men are not to be trusted around women—black or white. But this is a truth that applies to the human race and to no particular race of men. There is not a person in this courtroom who has never told a lie, who has never done an immoral thing, and there is no man living who has never looked upon a woman without desire."
- Atticus Finch, TKAM Chapter 20,pg 204

Quote #3
"First of all," he said, "if you can learn a simple trick, Scout, you'll get along a lot better with all kinds of folks. You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view […] until you climb into his skin and walk around in it."
- Atticus Finch, TKAM Chapter 3,pg 30

PART 3

Quote #1
Quote #2
"If you’ll concede the necessity of going to school, we’ll go on reading every night just as we always have." Atticus; Chapter pg
Scout doesn’t want to go to school because she feels that Miss Caroline would make her and Atticus stop reading. He teaches her to compromise. This is important to a 6yr old because it shows that she is mature in some way.
Quote #3
"Dont matter who they are, anybody sets foot in this house’s, yo’ company and don’t let me catch you remarkin on their ways like you was so high and mighty." Calpurnia; Chapter 2 pg 24
This quote is my favorite because Calpurnia is saying to Scott that she can not pretend she is better than everybody. Some people act a certain way because thats how they act.

LaNisha Willams
"Life can be found only in the present moment. The past is gone, the future is not yet here, and if we do not go back to ourselves in the present moment, we cannot be in touch with life."

PART 4
Quote #1
"They're certainly entitled to think that, and they're entitled to fill respect for their opinions," said Atticus, "but before I can live with other folks I've got to love with myself. The one thing that doesn't abide by majority rule is a person's conscience."
Atticus Finch ch. 11, p139
Deysha Franklin
Quote #2
"I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand. It's when you know you're locked before you begin but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what. You rarely win, but sometimes you do."
Atticus Finch ch. 11, p149
Quote #3
"The one place where a man ought to get a square deal is in a courtroom, be he any color of the rainbow, but people have a way of carrying their resentments right into a jury box. As you grow older, you'll see white men cheat black men every day of your life, but let me tell you something and don't you forget it - whenever a white man does that to a black man, no matter who he is, how rich he is, or how fine a family he comes from, that white man is trash."
Atticus Finch ch. 23, p295
Life Lesson Quote
“To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all.”
Oscar Wilde
They are viewing Tom as if he is not human, as if he's perfect. in this staement, Atticus is getting thepeople in the court to understand that Tom i not perfect.

You can't understand how someone feels unless you become that person. You can't judge how someone feels because you are not them and you don't know what they feel.
"Until I feared I would lose it, I nevered loved to read. One does not love breathing." Scott; Chapter 2 pg. 18.
Scott has read ever since she can remember. Now that she does not have it, she realizes how important it is. We do not know how much something means until we lose it.
"...when the debate became more acrimonious than usual..." ch. 17 pg. 174
I began to notice the arguement got even more acrimonious.

PART 5
Quote #1

Quote #2
"Somewhere I had recieved the impression that folks were people who did the best they could with the since they had, but Aunt Alexandra was of the opinion, obliquely expressed, that the longer a family had been squatting on one patch of land the finer it was.
Chp.13 Page130-Scout
Quote #3
"He might have hurt me a little.. But son, you'll understand folks better when you're older."
chp.16 page 157-Atticus
Life Lesson Quote
"We allow our ignorance to prevail upon us and make us think we can survive alone, alone in patches, alone in groups, alone in races, even alone in genders.
-Maya angelou
This quote from the book is basically saying that
all people have the right to a certain opinion.
It's the person that has a say and not what others may think.
This quote is saying that life is what you make it. Doing something productive day by day even if that means baby steps toward a goal.

This quote to me is saying that you should make an impact on the people around you, instead of just existing. This relates to the book in a way that the characters that Scout, Jem, and even Dill looked up to showed them some of the positives and negatives they have to face everyday.
You shouldn't treat anyone less than what they are, it's important that people voice their own opinions and treated with an equal advantage.
" I said I would like it very much, which was a lie, but one must lie under circumstances and at all times when one cant do anything about them."
Chp.13 , Page 128-Scout
