Stars & Galaxies
Transcript of Stars & Galaxies
Components of the universe
The smallest components are atomic particles followed by atoms (mostly free hydrogen and helium), molecules, dust, space rocks, comets, asteroids, moons, dwarf planets, planets, solar systems, stars, black holes, nebulae, and galaxies.
what are stars? stars are luminous points in the sky that are large and almost like the sun. Stars are basically made up of gas & dust.
a cloud of gas and dust in outer space, visible in the night sky either as an indistinct bright patch or as a dark silhouette against other luminous matter.
a system of millions or billions of stars, together with gas and dust, held together by gravitational attraction.
To help understand...
a two-dimensional graph, devised independently by Ejnar Hertzsprung (1873–1967) and Henry Norris Russell (1877–1957), in which the absolute magnitudes of stars are plotted
is a medium sized star near the edge of a disk shaped galaxy. The sun is many thousands of times closer to earth than any other star
there are different types of galaxies
there is spiral, disk, and irregular
this is a spiral galaxy
why do you need to know?
you need to know about the stars and galaxies because you would end up wondering how the earth and stars and everything was created
careers related to the stars and galaxies
studies the planets and the sun in our solar system as well as other stars, solar systems, galaxies, and the whole universe. They try to understand how the universe works.
