Romance literature was born from the romanticism movement of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. It is a genre that focuses mainly on the relationship and love between two people, Romance Writers of America: The Romance Genre (Retrieved August 25, 2014) states that having an "emotionally satisfying and optimistic ending" is a basic element of every romance novel.

Sense and Sensibility and Pride and Prejudice were such iconic and historical novels by Jane Austin they have been made into movies.
One of the most iconic romance movies is Gone With the Wind which originated from Margaret Mitchell's novel of the same name, the movie was released in 1939 and was the first film in color to win an Academy Award.
Science Fiction is worlds apart from romance however before the genre was as it is now it was referred to as science romance an example being Frankenstein. Sci-fi is a genre which uses the combination of science and technology to create stories based on space, time travel and the future.

Mary Shelley is often credited with have written the first ‘true’ piece of sci-fi literature in her classic novel, Frankenstein. Released in the UK in 1818, the novel is undoubtedly a horror story however the concept of a ‘mad scientist’ creating a beast using advanced science and technology is a logical link to the concept of science fiction.

Although Mary Shelley is accredited as having written the first sci-fi based novel, Jules Verne and H.G. Wells are unquestionably the pioneers of science fiction and the first full time sci-fi authors. With titles such as Journey to the Center of the Earth and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Jules Verne’s imagination helped shape the future of the world’s technological advancement with his then ‘radical ideas’.
Famous authors and best sellers

She brought a sense of realism to romance infused with a comedic irony. This fresh new style of writing has given Jane Austin her place in history as one of the most widely read writers in not only romance but in English literature as a whole.

On Literature
The written word has many purposes. It is used as a source of adventure, a learning tool, a record of our history and an avenue of expression. Through a world of fiction we can escape to a world of our chosen fantasy, through biographies and non-fiction, we can learn and pass on this wisdom. Literature is a written memory, and by writing, we never truly forget.
Fairy Tales: From the Latin word 'enchant'.
Similar to science fiction in that both genres deal with situations that are contrary to fact. These tales were not originally meant to be heard by children but were told as scary stories around campfires, or as cultural or religious references. The characters in tales such as the shy princess or loyal prince, were originally natural objects such as the sun or rain.
