When did Shamanism begin?
Shamanism is a prehistoric religion existing since the beginning of time.
It is hard to know exactly when it started because back then they did not keep records. It is believed to have begun 5,000-350,000 years ago.
Where, how, and why did Shamanism diffuse?
Contagious Diffusion
Diffused to Greece and Rome
Shamanism greatly influenced Buddhism that eventually spread to China.
Depending on location, people spread religion and beliefs through interaction and communication.
People migrated from the hearth, and spread the religion.
People were attracted to the religion's ideas of spirits, healing, and cleansing.
What are major Shamanism beliefs and rituals?
Who started Shamanism and where is the hearth?
There is no way for researchers to know who the founder of Shamanism is because it is very old.
Shamanism did not break off from another religion, it came about on it's own.
Shamanism originated in Siberia, and also developed in Tibet, North and South America, various African tribes, and Alaska.
Now, Shamanism exists on all inhabited continents, even though practices are slowly declining.
Why is Shamanism important historically?
Historic understandings of Shamanism have been lost and only fragments remain.
It is important because it influenced other religions, like Buddhism.
In the prehistoric ages they did not take notes or keep records of information on Shamanism; therefore this religion is a mystery.
