Born in Paris France on March 6, 1619, died on July 28, 1655.
French satirist and dramatist.
Satirist- one who uses ridicule, irony, and sarcasm.
Dramatist- one who writes plays.

1622- moved to Mauvières
1638- entered the army
1640- fought at the battle of siege of Arras
1640- hit in the neck with a sword.
1641- left the army to study philosophy and math under Pierre Gassendi.
Cyrano de Bergerac
This play was based off the life of the real Cyrano de Bergerac written by Edmond Rostand in 1897.
It is meant to be a satire, like a comedy.
It is about Bergerac's not-so-appealing appearance, expressing his love for a beautiful woman.
His love interest in the play name is Roxane, in real life it was his first cousin, who lived with his aunt, Catherine de Cyrano.
In 1637, he went through a phase of drinking, gambling, and fighting.
Two of his plays were published:
La Mort d'Agrippine and Le Pédant joué.
La Mort d'Agrippine(1645) is about revolt against the tyrant Tibère. The revolt even included his own family.
Encouraged free thinking and materialism.
Death of Bergerac
July 28, 1655, aged 36.
Health damage due to confinement in asylum.
Assassination by his enemies.
A falling wooden beam.
He is the son of Abel de Cyrano, lord of Mauvières and Bergerac, and Espérance Bellanger.
Educated by a country priest.
