Media is information that is communicated through technology.
*When referring to one type of media, such as television, you should use the singular form "medium."
Technology doesn't always mean computers. Any mechanism or tool that people use is a kind of technology.
The medium is just as important as the information it transmits.
How is information different when you read it online, in contrast to reading it in a book?
Four Types of Media for our Focus:
Since the late 1890's, film has been a central piece of media and art throughout the world.
Broadly, film can be divided into fiction and nonfiction (documentary) genres.
Fiction, or narrative film, has always been a dominant form of entertainment, but documentary film has also been closely involved in education, news, politics, and sociology.
To understand how film can communicate information, viewers need to consider the purpose and analyze how the film teaches about its subject.
Even "fun" movies can teach us something, right?
"Broadcast media" includes both television and radio, which are distributed through digital or over-the-air signals.
Broadcast media is usually considered to be either "live" - communicated in the same moment the event is occurring - or "preprogrammed" - taped in advance and usually edited for content.
Broadcast media used to be the primary mode of transmitting information before the widespread use of the Internet.
While digital media has an increasing influence for many consumers, broadcast media is still the primary source of news and television for many families.

Print media is one of the oldest types of media, and printing communication on a surface was one of the first technological innovations in human communication.
The invention of the printing press created enormous controversy in the 1400's as community leaders were worried about people learning too much from books.
Newspaper readers number more than 100 million, most of whom read print copies of the news.
Millions of books are published every year, and books continue to a major part of education and entertainment throughout the world.
But, print media is under attack, according to many media scholars, from the newest innovation in media...
With the advent of the Internet, digital media has become a major focus area for writers, media scholars, artists, advertisers, and consumers.
The Digital Media Alliance Florida, defines digital media as "the creative convergence of digital arts, science, technology and business for human expression, communication, social interaction and education".
So what does digital media look like?
Not only has the media changed, but the methods people use to access media has changed as well.
