Acid Base An acid-base reaction that occurs between an acid and base. When an acid and a base are placed together, they react to neutrilize the acid and base properties, producing a salt. HCl+NaOH -> H2O+NaCl
Acid Base Water Salt Video Definitions of acids and bases:
acid: generates [H+] in solution
base: generates [OH-] in solution
acid: accepts an electron pair
base: donates an electron pair Acids taste sour, are corrosive to metals, change litmus (a dye extracted from lichens) red, and become less acidic when mixed with bases.
Bases feel slippery, change litmus blue, and become less basic when mixed with acids Acid base in everyday life: Testing of pH blood Looking at bacterial activity. Hydrogen Halides (except HF), HCl, HBr, HI,
Nitric acid, HNO3
Sulphuric Acid H2SO4 (in dilute solutions only)
Perchloric acid HClO4.
