Essential Questions
How did these habitats get recognized and split into these five regions?
What are ways that plants adapt in order to survive in their environment?
How do animals rely on their adaptations in order to survive in their habitat?
Can a habitat make you adapt in more than one way? If a habitat changes, how will this affect the organism’s adaptations that are living in that habitat?
What adaptations do I have in order to survive in my habitat?

. Students will investigate the habitats of different organisms and the dependence of organisms on their habitat.
a. Differentiate between habitats of Georgia (mountains, marsh/swamp, coast, Piedmont, Atlantic Ocean) and the organisms that live there.
b. Identify features of green plants that allow them to live and thrive in different regions of Georgia.
c. Identify features of animals that allow them to live and thrive in different regions of Georgia.
d. Explain what will happen to an organism if the habitat is changed.

Solve two-step word problems using the four operations. Represent these problems using equations with a letter standing for the unknown quantity. Assess the reasonableness of answers using mental computation and estimation strategies including rounding.

Tell and write time to the nearest minute and measure time intervals in minutes. Solve word problems involving addition and subtraction of time intervals in minutes, e.g., by representing the problem on a number line diagram.

Road Trip Through the Georgia Regions
The Governor of Georgia, Nathan Deal, has realized a decline in tourism. He is calling on you to help attract more tourist to his state. In order for you to tell people about this wonderful state, you must first learn about all that it has to offer.
Once you have completed your individual tasks, you will create a design challenge of a Georgia habitat that you would suggest for the tourist to visit.
Make sure to pay attention during the smart board activity because you will be identifying and labeling the Georgia regions on your own Georgia map.

Get your brains all warmed up because here comes the Design Challenge! After your individual creation of your imaginary animal, with your group you will brainstorm and create the habitat that not only your animals would need to adapt to live in but also keep in mind the mission that Governor Nathan Deal had assigned you. Feel free to refer back to the task slide in order to refresh your memory.

Center One: Complete the flip book that is working on the different aspects of the Georgia Regions.
Center Two: Identify the topographical regions on your Georgia map and then write an opinion writing about which region you would like to live in and why?
Center Three: Here you will create a broucher, using your thoughts from your opinion paper, convincing tourist to visit or move to that same Georgia region as you.
Center Four: Work on the two-step word problems dealing with both time, plants and animals, and extinction rates.
Center Five: Get your acting hats on because its time to become an actor or actress! Draw an animal for the jar and act that animal out. Once your friends guess that animal, you then need to work together to make a list of all of the adaptations that animal needs to survive.
