HOW HE INSPIRES ME
John and Yoko with their son, Sean
> Yoko ono is a avant-garde artist and beleives strongly in peace and anti-war movements

>John met Yoko at the Indica gallery in London, in 1966

> Upon Lennons wife's return from her vacation in Greece, Yoko and John were caught cheating

>His wife, Cynthia, filed for a divorce after finding out Yoko was pregnant with Johns baby

>They got married on March 20th, 1969

>During the last 2 years of the Beatles, Yoko and John began protesting against the Vietnam war

>She turned his angry rebel-like behavior from when he was a Beatle, into a peace-loving activist

>Accused of breaking-up the Beatles by being a distraction

>The act of Bagism was created by John and Yoko

> The intent of it was to eliminate prejudice

>According to John, being completely covered in a bag forces people to focus on the baggist message, rather than their exterior appearance

>This was a smart tactic to avoid judgement, especially considering the times
>Lennon was shot outside his NYC apartment on December 8th, 1980, at 40 years old

> He was shot by a deranged fan, Mark David Chapman after 3 months of planning

> Chapman was a huge fan until Lennon stated that "the Beatles are more famous then Jesus"

> Lennon was shot in the back and chest 4 times, and died 20 mins later in the hospital
John signing a book for Chapman, (right) , 6 hours before his death
> John and Yoko protested the Vietnam war with 2 week-long 'bed-ins for peace'

>The first was in Amsterdam, for John and Yoko's honeymoon

>Their second was in Montreal, after John was evicted from the US due to marijuana possession

>They wrote the song 'Give Peace a Chance' during their Montreal bed-in

>These protests received a great deal of press coverage

>Songs that Lennon wrote about peace:
>Imagine
>Give peace a chance
>Happy Xmas (War is over if you want it)
>Power to the people
>Bring on the Lucie (Freda people)
>John Lennon supported 3 main charities; UNICEF, WhyHunger, and Aid Still Required

>He gave thousands of dollars to them

>He also sang at many fundraisers and charity events

>He used his fame to attract attention to these causes
>Since his death, the world has not forgotten about his music and his activism

>A part of Central Park was named "Strawberry Fields" in memory of him

> Every year on October 9th, people from around the world get together and celebrate his life

>His impact is eternal and he changed the worlds outlook on social activism, peace, and pop culture

John Lennon inspires me for 4 main reasons:

-He went against social norms and societal expectations

-He was able to change his morals and become a better person

-He had a dream and worked to achieve it

-He used his fame to improve the world
“We’re trying to sell peace, like a product, you know, and sell it like people sell soap or soft drinks. And it’s the only way to get people aware that peace is possible.”
“When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down “happy.” They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life.”
“You're all geniuses, and you're all beautiful. You don't need anyone to tell you who you are. You are what you are. Get out there and get peace, think peace, and live peace and breathe peace, and you'll get it as soon as you like.”
“It matters not who you love, where you love, why you love, when you love or how you love, it matters only that you love"
“If everyone demanded peace instead of another television set, then there'd be peace.”
“If someone thinks that peace and love are just a cliche that must have been left behind in the 60s, that's a problem. Peace and love are eternal.”
