Childhood Experiences: She played flute in the middle school orchestra.
Education: Grossmont high school (1975)
San Diego State University (1981) bachelor of science degree in physics
Stanford University (1981) master of science degree
Stanfors University (1985) doctorate in electrical engineering Her four space flights took place in 1993, 1994, 1999, 2002.
Her third flight was the first ever docking to the International Space Station. THe crew deliver four tons of supplies in preparation for the first crew to live in the station.
I believe being the first hispanic astronaut changed her life because people didnt just see her as another astronuat. She went down in our history, and she became a hero to many people across the world. She impacted mostly woman and hispanics. Because not only was she the first hispanic astronuat she was also one of the first women to travel to space. After she was chosen and traveled to space four times. I think women all over the world realize that being an astronuat wasn't just for men, so more women prusuded that job. She was a hero to people everywhere. An also an inspiration to people. Her parents got a divorce when she was in high school. She stayed with her mother and 4 siblings.
She is married to Coe Fulmer Miles
She had two kids, both boys. More facts :D She developed and patented an optical inspection technique to detect imperfections in repeating patterns. And was the first hispanic woman to go into space. She also patented an optical system that can be used to robotically manufacture goods or in robotic guiding systems.
Not only is she an inventor she is a research scientist.
She was appointed deputy director of NASA's Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center. This center is responsible for all human space flights, the shuttle program, and the new Constellation program.
