Transcript of Oedipus Rex

After he was born his feet were percised and he was given to a shepard. The shepard was told leave him to die in the mountains. Like in almost all myths, the shepard took pity on him and gave him to king Polybus and queen Merope of Cornith. Oedipus was the child of king Laius and queen Jocasta. Before his birth he was prophecised to kill his father and marry his mother. Oedipus Rex He was named Oedipus which means swollen foot After oedipus grows up he discovers the prophecy. Thinking that he is going to kill Polybus and Merope he leaves corinth. During oedipus journrey he comes to a intersection of 3 roads. there his chariot meets another and neither give the other the right of way. Oedipus and the older other man get into a fight. Oedipus kills the other man, who happened to be king Lauis, his true father. Oedipus contuines on his way to thebes. At the city gates he meets the sphinx. The sphinx has the body of a lion and the head of a woman. it torments Thebes by asking travlers a riddle, if the ansewer wrong it kills them. the sphinx asked oedipus it riddle and he anseres corectly. the sphinx in out rage jumps from its perch, falls and dies. Oedipus is hallied as a hero in Thebes and is pronounced king He is married to the old queen, Jocasta, who is also his mother (but he doesnt know that) He has 4 children with Jocasta There Names are
