glow sticks LIVY RIGNALL ∞ ∞ BY: why do glow sticks glow? .glow sticks are made up of a glass inner
layer that contains the colour of (go to q.2),
and a sturdy outer layer of another chemical. That then means that when the glow stick is bent, the glass inner layer snaps and liquid inside the inner layer, then reacts with the other layer of liquid causing it to glow. how do glow sticks get their colour? .glow stick colours contain:
blue; 9,10-diphenylanthracene
green; 9,10-bis(phenylethynyl)
yellow; 1-chloro-9,10-bis
(phenylethynyl)anthracene rubrene
orange; 5,12-bis(phenylethynyl)
-naphthacene, rhodamine, 6G
red; rhodamine B 1 2 do glow sticks work when they are in
cold or warm temperatures? .yes they do, in fact, when they glow
stick is put in the freezer, it then slows
down the chemical reaction. after a night
or so, when the glow stick is taken out, it
then is needed to be warmed up, and it
will then glow for 30mins (half an hour). 3 what happens if glow stick contents gets
in my eye? .if it gets in your eye, flush it out with
water, or if that dosen't work, get a
make-up remover pad, cotton wool or
eye-drops and soak with water and dab
