Sui Dynasty A Time Of Change for China By Allie, Trinity and Brittany What years did the dynasty begin and end? Why did it end? The Sui dynasty ruled from 581-618 C.E. It ended in a peculiar way. Yang Ti decided to attack Korea, but when his army of over a million men needed to retreat, his army generals ended up murdering him. Where China was the dynasty located geographically? The Sui dynasty was located near the Yangtze River, and in southeastern China. Yangtze River Did Social Classes impact the jobs that people had? As you can see, the social classes impacted the jobs people had. (Pronounced yang-see) What jobs did people have? Gentry- A person of great wealth and power
Peasant- A person who acts as a farmer and a normal person without status or wealth
Merchants- Traders, a big job back then with little recognition. What types of technology developed during this time? Yang Ti might have died from a fatal mistake, but he did accomplish some good things. He ordered the Grand Canal to be made, making it easier for people to travel from northern to southern China. It connected the Yellow river with the Huai and Yangtze Rivers. Art Start! The Sui dynasty had: Calligraphy- Wang Xizhi and his son, Wang Xianzhi, created a cursive type writing but the north stuck to its the strict chancery script. Architecture- the oldest still extant segment arch stone Anji Bridge was made during the Sui dynasty Painting- wall painting was pursued during this dynasty. Clay Figures- pottery figurines of warriors from the Sui dynasty that influenced the northern dynasties. What type of government was in place? Who was the emperor of the dynasty? Emperor Wen was the emperor of the time and they had a monarchy as their type of government. What was the role of women and children? women weren't allowed to be government officials. The people of the Sui dynasty accomplished a lot through forced labor of men and women. Did any major events occur that effected the rest of China? Impact other countries. 614- China attacked Korea
