How Our Future is Affected by Our Past and Present
Transcript of How Our Future is Affected by Our Past and Present
Past, Present, Future
We can view the events of the past in order to understand the significance of the events and how they affect our society's views and values in the present and for the future.
Ultimately, understanding our past & present can shape our future decisions.
Everything we experience and learn in our past and present shape our future.
The past and present are relevant to who we become in the future because we can learn from the good and the bad.
World War 2: Our past decisions are the deciding factor of which countries developed the fastest, which held the power, which ones made the decisions.
Past Positive View Vs. Past Negative View:
The past is gone. It’s over. We can’t change it, we can’t redo it, we can’t replace it. But we can learn from it, prosper over it, and thrive THROUGH it.
Civil Right Movement and Women's Rights Movement:
The past is a powerful, powerful aspect of our lives.
Our past shapes who we are, and if we let it, it molds our future.
We choose to create our own future – we can decrease the negativity from our past and increase the positivity for a brighter future.
No one knows what the future holds, but we get to decide what we take from our past into our future.
The future will be different than anything we have seen before because of technological advancements. Technology will be better than ever before because we can take our past decisions and understand how to make them better.
Our past decisions are relevant to who we should become in the future because:
The present plays a significant role in our future because the decisions we make now will have consequences later.
As things are going today, racial discrimination will not be as much as a problem as it is today or as it was years ago because the races and cultures are merging more and more everyday.
As for war and gay rights, peace will come someday for both.
-Women were to marry, tend the house, and raise a family.
-Education beyond reading and writing were unusual
-Women were under the control of their husbands
-Women could not buy or sell property
-Women could not vote
Past: World War 2 & Women's Rights Movement
-women proved that they could do "men's" work: women were capable of all sorts of roles in society in addition to those of wife and mother
-their entry into industrial jobs hastened and lit a fuse
that contributed to the Women's Rights Movement
-Women's Rights Movement: Fight for suffrage
" We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men and women are created equal"
Present and Future
WHAT WOMEN CAN DO:
-become a supreme court justice
-leadership & many more
WHAT WOMEN CAN'T DO:
-women still can't necessarily access legal abortion.
-women still don't see people of their gender equally represented in politics or at the top of U.S. companies.
BUT, these can change as time progresses into the future.
A Woman's Worth
World War II was a time
It was a time for women's roles
Newspapers and magazines replied
You could run a machine
If you could drive a car
For women were very much needed
In this time of great war
Some women took hard labor
Others worked in offices
Some ran huge cranes
And tended to blast furnaces
Women got better pay
Although many bosses tried to avoid it
Women usually got their war
During World War II
Women changed their style
Instead of wearing skirts
Women wore trousers rugged and rough
Women changed dramatically during war
They became more confident and proud
Women that were once quiet and pleasant
Suddenly became pleasantly rude and loud!
Women will continue to play an expanding role in our workplaces and homes, our economy, and our families
Women's Rights Movement
Civil Rights Movement
Past to Present: Slavery and racial segregation/discrimination have been eradicated; however, even if we are all "equal," racism continues to still exist in some form.
Present/Future: What's unfortunate is that society seems to think that the issue is over, and they have moved on to the next issue (homosexuality).
Future: WE HAVE TO TRY TO NOT JUDGE ANYONE BASED ON COLOR, GENDER, AGE, CULTURE ETC.
World War 2
Technology has expanded and developed throughout the history of technology. Some people rely on technology to the point where it equates to breathing and eating. Some people rely on technology to socialize, make education easier, and many more. For some it is helpful, but for some it is a distraction. Nevertheless, technology is continuing to develop.
Past: less technology
Future: newer, high tech devices
