Transcript of The black loyalists
cbc black loyalists
The black loyalists arrived in Nova Scotia
between 1783 and 1785. They were the largest
group of African people that had decided to come
to Nova Scotia at any one time. The black loyalist Introduction: The Phillipsburg proclamation When did they
come? The Black Loyalists By Fasa When the American Revolution began in the 1770s, the British were very outnumbered. When they were in desperate times, they promised freedom to any slave who fought the Americans. The response was greater than they could have imagined; as many as 30 000 slaves escaped to Britian. Working as soldiers, labourers, pilots, cooks, and musicians, they were a major part of the unsuccessful British war. As defeat became worrisome, these free blacks were evacuated to Nova Scotia with the other Loyalists. slide 1 slide 2 Why is this important?
