For youth between the ages of 10 and 24, suicide is the third leading cause of death

Due to an unsupportive social environment, the youth of the LGBT community are at a higher risk for suicidality than their heterosexual peers; therefore efforts to create social support for these individuals is essential to improving their quality of life.
