I was different.
I was taken by ambulance
to a NICU like this one. It was
loud and they never turned
the lights off. It didn't take too long to find
out why I was different.
One of my chromosomes was
missing a small piece. Another
had some extra bits. Once I got out from under
the bright lights in the NICU,
I opened my eyes. In the beginning Science Seeing Topic So I never opened my eyes -- not even once -- for 5 weeks.
The doctors had an explanation. Growing I started school when I was 4 months old.
I never learned to crawl, but I learned to walk with a walker.
My eyes don't work very well. I graduated for the first time when I was 3. Then it was off to public school. School I attended school until I was 21.
My differences isolated me in many ways.
It is hard to make friends when you cannot communicate the way everyone else does. I am the same age as Mark Zuckerberg, but I was out of high school before the Facebook era began. Living But now, because of the web and e-culture, I can really participate in a community, with a little help from family and friends. Life I love the water. I'm a sports fan -- I follow Packers football and
Brewers baseball. Travel I enjoy traveling. I have been all over the US and many other places in the world. I lived in Scotland and attended school there.
Now I live in Wisconsin. Warmth I try to visit someplace warm every summer, so I can swim. It is too cold to swim in Wisconsin! Community I belong to a world-wide community, thanks to the web. Thanks It has been great talking to you. Hope we can meet again sometime.
