The Elements in Art The basic elements of design shaped how artist’s work was defined and classified by critiques since the beginning of time. Artists of specific art movements used the elements in very different ways to create their works. In this lesson you along with the help of your group members (fellow artists) will have the opportunity to research and become an expert about a specific art movement of the 20th century. You will then create a multimedia presentation highlighting what you have learned. This lesson will help to answer questions like...
What are the elements of design?
What ways do the elements make up and affect a work of art?
How did modern artist of different art movements use the elements of design to create their works?
How did each movement have an impact on the next?
In this lesson you will be split into
four seperate art movements. Surrealists


Abstract Expressionists Minimalists Op Artists You have been assigned to the great Surrealist movement. The objective of your group is to create a multimedia presentation using photo story that answers the following questions:
•Define the elements of design.
•Analyze, Research, and give background information and characteristics of the Surrealist art movement.
•Identify how you and other artists of your movement used the elements of design in your works of art.
•Describe how your movement was important in influencing later movements of the 20th century.
You are part of the Abstract Expressionist movement! The objective of your group is to create a multimedia presentation using photo story that answers the following questions:
•Define the elements of design.
•Analyze, Research, and give background information and characteristics of the Abstract Expressionist art movement.
•Identify how you and other artists of your movement used the elements of design in your works of art.
•Describe how your movement was important in influencing later movements of the 20th century.
You are now a Minimalist! The objective of your group is to create a multimedia presentation using photo story that answers the following questions:
•Define the elements of design.
•Analyze, Research, and give background information and characteristics of the Minimalist art movement.
•Identify how you and other artists of your movement used the elements of design in your works of art.
•Describe how your movement was important in influencing later movements of the 20th century.
Last but not least is the mind blowing Op Artists. The objective of your group is to create a multimedia presentation using photo story that answers the following questions:
•Define the elements of design.
•Analyze, Research, and give background information and characteristics the Op art movement.
•Identify how you and other artists of your movement used the elements of design in your works of art.
•Describe how your movement was important in influencing later movements of the 20th century.
