Mrs. O'Neill Writing Process Pre-writing Drafting Revising Editing Pre-writing is the process of coming up with ideas for your essay.
This is not formal, polished writing. Brainstorming Freewriting Clustering Great technique for visual learners.
A way of narrowing your thoughts by connecting your ideas.

Brainstorming is a way to
think of new ideas.
Brainstorming means you write
every idea that is
in your head (your brain). Write words or phrases.
Write all the things that you think of. Is a strategy intended to encourage the development of ideas without concern for the
conventional rules of writing. "The goal of freewriting
is in the process,
not the product."
Peter Elbow Just think! Just write! How to make a cluster map:
Write the topic in the center of your page, inside a circle.
Write general ideas about the topic around the circle
Write more ideas about each general idea.
Continue until you can think of no more ideas. well I'm sitting here at the library and I really don't know what to write about it is too chilly in here today i complained to all the teachers about the school being too hot - remind myself not to correct errors it's second nature to go back and change misspelled words i should have written this example before, in handwriting that way the computer wont correct it Example Prewriting Techniques Daily Routine Try it! Outlining comes after you already have the ideas for your paper.
It is a way of laying your thoughts before you begin writing.
Use bullets points to write down each concept you want to mention in the order you want to mention them. Outline (Blueprint) Competitive Swimming, an Ideal Sport for Kids
1. Introduction
2. Competitive swimming provides same benefits as other sports
a. It is good exercise and builds muscular strength
b. It promotes cooperation among team members, especially in relays
3. Competitive swimming provides some additional benefits
a. Swimming is an important skill that can be used forever
b. There is a reduced risk of injury
c. Each swimmer can easily chart his or her own progress
4. My personal experience as a competitive swimmer
