Transcript of Typhoons

By: Molly Heath p.8 What is a typhoon? What causes a typhoon?? Whats the difference? Who is typhoon Nancy? When do typhoons happen? SAFTEY!! A typhoon is a tropical cyclone that develops in the Northwest areaof the Pacific or Indian oceans. A typhoon is almost like a hurricane. In a way, that is kinda cool. A typhoon can also happen during the day or night!! Look over to the left to see a typhoon. Typhoons are pushed by high altitude winds, and move north because of the affect of Earth's rotation. The same thing happens when a hurricane hits!! Look up to see the word typhoon in chinese!! What is the difference between a typhoon and a hurricane? A hurricanes generally move in a path resembling the curve of a parabola in the northern hemisphere. The storms usually travel first in the northwesterly direction and in the higher latitudes turn toward the northwest. A typhoon is almost the same look above! can you see the difference? Big and.... ... small North Pacific typhoons mostly happen during the months of May and December. Tropical typhoons in the Southern Hemisphere happen during December and April. Bay of Bengal and Arabian tropical cyclones happen during the months of April through June (or September) and December. This is when a typhoon happens!! What are the effects of a typhoon? The effects of a typhoon are that they go up to 75 miles per hour (mph). Also they can make damages to homes, trees, community, and everything else around you. Did you know that typhoons can affect the land and sea? They can raise the sea levels up to close to 100 feet in the air. Did YOU know? My Sources!! Typhoon Nancy was a extremely powerful typhoon that happened in 1961. It had some of the strongest winds that the system has ever measured, in a tropical cyclone. Also caused serious damage, "Nancy" at least had 173 deaths and thousands of injuries in Japan. The damage was so heavy that the Japan Meteorological Agency gave the typhoon its own special name, one one of the eight systems to be named. Wikipedia.com;Google;
Dictionary.com; Answer.com You will need food and water. You will also need blankets so you will not get hurt by falling items off of the shelf. You will probably need a big towel and/or a mop incase of water. Also you might meed to shut your curtains so you won't get hurt by the glass. Always be safe! What does a typhoon graph look like? A typhoon graph looks like this!! Did you know that the Philippines 31 typhoons hit there in 2012? This must be a bad year for them! Did you know that most typhoons in Japan happen during the months of May and October? Wow that must be a lot of typhoons!! :) Why do typhoons have names? Typhoons have names because it is easier to say "Where is typhoon Henry?" Than to say where is typhoon 7thyr5ft. Here are the names of all of the typhoons/hurricanes! This isn't a long list.
