Pabico ABSTRACT The Multi-Library System with ISBN Search Implemented Online via Google App Engine-Java is an online Web Library System Application which allows Google users to create and set-up their own library. The Sytem can handle multiple libraries designed to accommodate a complete library system.
It has added ISBN Seearch functionality which optimizes the process of populating the system. It is implemented online using Google App Engine in Java. Human race have reached a milestone of development. This development plays a very crucial role in the advancement of different disciplines. Records from these studies are the key for future developments. Every day, people are making history. The records of such event and researches are important as references for later events and studies. Statement of the Problem
Systems are done which deals with libraries. Through these systems, finding a book for a certain library makes the task easier. The problem with local systems, from the term, it is only possible to access locally.
From the local libraries, online libraries are now developed.
By the power of the internet, a person can now find a certain book in the comfort of their own place.
Another problem is populating the system. It requires a lot of time and effort; thus, there is a need to simply such task. The use of technology, particularly the power of the internet is such a great help. Using the resources available online, simply finding a copy of it, get its details, modify it, and store it in your system is the ultimate goal of this system. STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
The system will be dealing with the ISBN, populating your system with books will be a lot easier. Instead of manually adding it, the user has the option of finding it online. The system will help the user to store books by simply inputting the ISBN in the search form. The system accesses online libraries like Google and Amazon and finds the book that matches your query. Book details such as Title, Author, Publisher, Publication Year, Number of Pages, and Book Cover are then extracted from the search result and then outputted in a .jsp file. The result is then displayed so the user can easily select and modify the contents of those books. REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE As early as 1994, Uprety created a program that automates the card catalog. He uses Turbo C 2.0. His study focuses on the library search function through a card catalogue system.
In 1998, Quilloy created a system that focuses on the retrieval of Special Problems and Theses in a networked environment using Common Gateway Interface (CGI) libraries in C.
Similarly, in 1998, Camacho developed a system in an internet setup that focuses on the borrowing of library materials in the Institute of Computer Science in UPLB even though the ICS Library was integrated into a library just in 2000.
In 2001, Torres developed a database system for the UPLB Main Library reserve section which deals with the improvement of searching, managing, borrowing, and reserving of books. Microsoft Access 97 was used for the database and Microsoft Active Server Pages with Visual Basic scripts and HTML for the interface.
In 2004, Lestajo of the University of the Philippines Baños, created a Library system for the Main Library of UPLB. It was designed using MySQL for the backend, Apache Tomcat Server and Java. The system deals with search, library reports and uploading manuscripts using XML.
In 2009, Dilla of the University of the Philippines Los Baños, developed an Online Job Information Retrieval System (JobSpider) which searches for all relevant Uniform Resource Locator (URL) of the websites of companies with job title and location as the inputs of the system.
In 2010, Gonzaga of the University of the Philippines Los Baños, developed an Online Plagiarism Detection System that searches the internet for relevant URLs which contains a series of substrings related to the users inputted text or document. RELATED WORKS RELATED LIBRARIES The UPLB Main Library is using Web Online Public Access Catalog for searching library materials which can be accessed online using your username and passwords. The UP Diliman Main Library is situated at Gonzalez Hall, UP Diliman Campus.
