Masculinity Via The Hip Hop World
Kanye
There was a
kid named
DJ Kool Herc. One day he thought it would be cool to try something new......
Straight out of Harlem, New York, the world was blessed with a man name Tupac Amaru Shakur.

Through his art, 2Pac addressed many issues that involved people of color. He may be considered one of the most controversial rappers of all time...

His lyrics included issues such as:
Police Brutality
Love for black women
Racism
Black Men in white America

Then along came Kanye
West...

With him he brought his
love for fashion,
women, and himself

His rising success led to the belief that his lyrics
are a lifestyle. This lifestyle focuses mainly on material possessions, wealth, and what comes with it.

Often times this leads to the devaluation of women.

But Kanye also has a softer side that focuses on the love of his family...

He then found that certain sounds and beats created something he liked to listen to... then other people found that they expressed the same feelings this new music was identified as Hip Hop due to the bounce of the music.
Then came another rapper, his name was Eminem, (not the Candy), like DJ Cool Herc he became who he was by listening to other artists. All he wanted to do was to create music that expresses how he feels no matter happy or sad he is.
Along came Biggie Smalls an infamous rapper from Brooklyn.

Growing up he had to sell drugs in order to make a living. This is not a positive or legal means of attaining money and it influence youth adopt this fast money lifestyle.

One positive thing Biggie Smalls always stresses is family and that is a support system that can give you direction. He also teaches us that money doesn't guarantee happiness.

The Notorious B.I.G.
When Eminem was feeling blue he knew
that he needed to turn it around he created
an album that captured the way he felt and
he knew the people would understand.

Although many of his songs stood for something greater than him, his use of the N word and the way he treats women question what he stands for.
