TUCK EVERLASTING
IS A FANTASY BOOK. I KNOW THIS NOVEL IS FANTASY BECAUSE WHEN I WAS READING I SAW THAT IT MENTIONED A "MAGIC SPRING". WHEN YOU DRANK THE WATER FROM THE SPRING YOU LIVE FOREVER.
SUMMARY
TUCK EVERLASTING
: THIS STORY TAKES PLACE IN A TOWN CALLED TREEGAP.THIS BOOK IS ABOUT A FAMILY KNOWN AS THE TUCKS WHO ONE DAY DRANK WATER FROM A SPRING IN THE WOODS AND CAN NOW LIVE FOREVER. ONE DAY A LITTLE GIRL NAMED WINIFRED FOSTER KNOWN AS WINNIE WAS SITTING OUTSIDE WHEN SHE SAW A BOY (JESSE TUCK THE SON). THEY BEGAN TO TALK WHEN A WOMEN WALKED UP (MAE TUCK THE MOTHER), SHE TOLD WINNIE THE STORY OF HOW THEY COULD LIVE FOREVER.THEY EXPLAINED WHY SHE CANT DRINK THE WATER, BECAUSE IT WOULD STOP HER RIGHT WHERE SHE IS, SHE WOULD LOOK TEN FOREVER. THEY HAD TO TAKE WINNIE AWAY FROM HOME FOR AWHILE SO THEY CAN MAKE SURE SHE UNDERSTANDS WHY SHE CANT TELL ANYONE. MILES AND JESSE ARE THE SONS OF MAE TUCK AND ANGUS TUCK. WHEN THEY TOOK WINNIE A MAN IN THE YELLOW SUIT WAS LISTENING TO WHAT THEY WERE SAYING HE ALSO FOLLOWED THEM.THE NEXT MORNING THE TUCKS DISCOVERED THEIR HORSE WAS MISSING, AND THAT THE MAN IN THE YELLOW SUIT TIED THE HORSE TO THE FOSTERS GATE. THE FOSTERS OWN THE WOODS, SO THE MAN IN THE YELLOW SUIT GAVE THEM AN OFFER, HE OWNS THE WOODS AND THEY GET WINNIE BACK OF COURSE THEY ACCEPTED, SO WHEN THE MAN IN THE YELLOW SUIT WENT TO THE TUCKS HOUSE TO GET WINNIE, SOMETHING
INDESCRIBABLE HAPPENED.
THIS BOOK TAKES PLACE IN TREEGAP (PG.106) . ON PAGE 106 IT SHOWS THE YEARS THIS BOOK TAKES PLACE, AROUND 1880-1950.THE WOODS OWN BY THE FOSTERS, SEEMS TO BE MAGICAL. IT CONTAINS A SPRING AND WHEN YOU DRINK OUT OF IT YOU LIVE FOREVER. THIS MAKES ME THINK THE FOSTERS KNOW ABOUT IT BECAUSE THEY DONT LET ANYONE, EVEN WINNIE GO IN THE WOODS (PG.21). THE TUCKS LIVE IN A LITTLE HOUSE BY A POND. MAE DOESNT SEEM TO CLEAN OFFEN. THE FOSTERS LIVE IN A COTTAGE WHICH IS VERY CLEAN (PG.6). THIS MAKES ME THINK THEY ARE COMPLETE OPPOSITES.
CHARACTER: THE MAN IN THE
YELLOW
SUIT
THE MAN IN THE YELLOW SUIT HAS LONG WHITE FINGERS. HE WENT TO UNIVERSITY AND STUDIED PHILOSOPHY, METAPHYSICS, AND A LITTLE MEDICINE (PG.72) . HE SEEMS TO BE AROUND HIS LATE 40'S. THE MAN IN THE YELLOW SUIT IS GREEDY AND SHADY.

BIG IDEA:
THE BIG IDEA I HAVE ON THE MAN IN THE YELLOW SUIT IS THAT HE ONLY THINKS ABOUT HIMSELF.

EVIDENCE:

HE TOLD THE FOSTERS HE WOULD BRING WINNIE TO THEM IF HE GETS THE WOODS IN RETURN (PG.71).
HE THEN WENT TO THE TUCKS HOUSE AND SAID HE IS GOING TO TAKE WINNIE BACK AND HE SAID HE WANTS ONE OF THEM TO SHOW HIM WHERE THE SPRING IS AT (PG. 73).
HE SAID HE WANTS TO SELL IT, BUT TO ONLY RICH PEOPLE (PG.75).
CHARACTER:WINNIE FOSTER
WINNIE FOSTER IS TEN YEARS OLD. SHE LIVES IN A "TOUCH ME NOT COTTAGE" AS SAID IN THE BOOK. SHE LIVES WITH HER MOTHER, FATHER, AND GRANDMA, BUT SPENDS HER DAYS OUTSIDE. WINNIE IS AN ONLY CHILD (PG.12) AND WAS BORN IN 1870 (PG.105). SHE SEEMS TO BE LOVING AND CARING.

EVIDENCE:
ON PAGE (PG.12) IT SAYS WINNIE WANTS TO RUNAWAY AND LEAVE THE FENCE. THEN ON PAGE 35 IT SAYS WINNIE WAS HAPPY TO RUNAWAY JUST NOW SHE WOULD BE RUNNING AWAY WITH HER FRIENDS THE TUCKS. THIS MAKES ME THINK WINNIE 'S GRANDMA DOESNT LET WINNIE GO ANYWHERE BY HERSELF.
ON PAGE 5-7 IT SAYS WINNIE WAS NEVER INTERESTED IN GOING INTO THE WOODS. SHE SAYS ITS BECAUSE SHE OWNED IT.
BIG IDEA:
WINIFRED FOSTER (WINNIE) IS TIRED OF BEING COPED UP BEHIND THE FENCE, SHE WANTS TO GO EXPLORE THE OUTSIDE.
JESSE TUCK
JESSE TUCK IS 104 YEARS OLD BOY BUT LOOKS 17 (PG.22). HE IS LOVING TOWARDS WINNIE AND HE CARES ABOUT THE SAFETY OF HIS FAMILY AND WINNIE. JESSE IS THIN, SUNBURNED, WITH THICK BROWN CURLY HAIR. HE WORE BATTERED TROUSERS AND A LOOSE GRUBBY SHIRT, WITH AS MUCH SELF-ASSURANCE AS IF THEY WERE SILK SATIN (PG.20).

BIG IDEA:
I THINK JESSE IS IN LOVE WITH WINNIE. MAINLY BECAUSE HE KEEPS TELLING HER TO DRINK THE WATER SO THEY CAN GET MARRIED.

EVIDENCE:
ON PAGE 87-88 JESSE GAVE WINNIE A BOTTLE OF WATER FROM THE SPRING, HE TOLD HER WHEN SHES 17 IF SHE DECIDES TO DRINK IT, TO COME LOOK FOR THEM, HE'LL FIND A WAY TO LEAVE DIRECTIONS.
ON PAGE 55 JESSE WOKE WINNIE UP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT AND TOLD HER THAT WHEN SHES 17 IF SHE WANTS TO SHE COULD DRINK THE WATER AND THEY CAN GET MARRIED AND TRAVEL TOGETHER.
CHARACTERS AFFECTED BY SETTING
BIG IDEA: WINNIE WANTS TO EXPLORE THE WORLD OUTSIDE HER FENCE. SHE DOESNT WANT TO BE HELD CAPTIVE BEHIND THE FENCE ANYMORE. ON THE OTHER HAND HER GRANDMOTHER DOESNT WANT HER TO GO OUTSIDE THE FENCE.
WINNIE FOSTER
ON PAGE 12 IT SAYS WINNIE WANTED TO RUNAWAY.
ON PAGE 35 IT SAYS WINNIE WAS HAPPY TO RUNAWAY, EVEN IF SHE WASNT ALONE.(SHE WAS WITH THE TUCKS)
GRANDMA FOSTER
ON PAGE 12 IT SHOWS GRANDMA TELLING WINNIE TO GET AWAY FROM THE FENCE.
ON PAGE 15-16 IT SAYS GRANDMA SAW WINNIE TALKING TO THE MAN IN THE YELLOW SUIT AND TOOK WINNIE AWAY FROM HIM.
CHARACTER ARCHETYPE
MOOD AND TONE
NAME OF CHARACTER:
THE MAN IN THE YELLOW SUIT
ARCHETYPE:
SHAPE-SHIFTER
EVIDENCE:
ON PAGE 57 I READ THAT THE MAN IN THE YELLOW SUIT STOLE THE TUCKS HORSE. HE THEN TIED IT TO THE FOSTERS GATE. THEN HE KNOCKED ON THE DOOR AND SAID,"I KNOW WHERE YOUR LITTLE GIRL IS."
ON PAGE 58 IT SAYS AFTER HE SAID," I KNOW WHERE YOUR LITTLE GIRL IS." HE MADE A BIG DEAL SAYING ,"IM PROBABLY THE ONLY ONE WHO CAN HELP YOU." THEN HE PROPOSED AN OFFER,"I WANT THE WOODS IN EXCHANGE FOR WINNIE." THIS MADE ME THINK HE IS USING THEM FOR THE WOODS AND PROBABLY WONT GIVE WINNIE BACK.
BEGINNING:
THE MOOD IS OVERALL UNCOMFORTABLE.
EVIDENCE:

ON PAGE 9, IT SAYS GRANDMA WENT UP TO THE MAN IN THE YELLOW SUIT AND ASKED WHO ARE YOU AND WHO ARE YOU LOOKING FOR? BUT THE MAN NEVER REPLIED.
ON PAGE 12-13 IT SAYS WINNIE WANTED TO RUNAWAY, SHE HATES BEING BEHIND THE FENCE.
MIDDLE:
THE MOOD WAS EXCITING.
EVIDENCE:

ON PAGE 35 IT SAYS WINNIE WAS HAPPY TO RUNAWAY WITH HER FRIENDS THE TUCKS.
ON PAGE 55 JESSE TOLD WINNIE THAT IN SIX YEARS WHEN SHES 17 TO DRINK THE SPRING WATER SO THEY CAN GET MARRIED AND TRAVEL TOGETHER.
END:
THE MOOD WAS DEPRESSING.
EVIDENCE:
ON PAGE 87 JESSE GAVE WINNIE A WATER BOTTLE FROM THE SPRING,HE SAID WHEN SHES 17 TO DRINK IT AND COME FIND THEM, THEY'LL LEAVE DIRECTIONS SOMEHOW.THIS MADE ME REALIZE THE TUCKS WOULD NOT BE BACK FOR A LONG TIME.
ON PAGE 104 IT SHOWS THE TUCKS COMING BACK INTO TOWN AND SEEING THAT THE WOODS AND THE FOSTERS COTTAGE HAD BURNT DOWN AND HOW EVERYTHING HAS CHANGED.

JESSE WENT TO SEE WINNIE AND TOLD HER THE PLAN, MILES WOULD USE HIS CARPENTRY SKILLS TO CUT THE WINDOW BARS OUT, HE WOULD THEN PULL MAE OUT, THEN SLIDE THE BARS BACK THEY WILL HAVE A FEW MINUTES BEFORE THE CONSTABLE CHECKS ON MAE. WINNIE OFFERED TO TAKE MAES PLACE UNTILL MORNING SO AT LEAST THEY HAVE A FEW HOURS TO ESCAPE. (PG.87-88)
