What Teachers Do In the Classroom Head Start Teaching Staff Employment of preschool teachers is expected to grow by 25 percent from 2010 to 2020, faster than the average for all occupations. The population of children ages 3 to 5 is expected to increase. Because children between these ages are typically enrolled in preschool, increases to that population will increase the demand for preschool teachers. HEAD START'S 8 DOMAINS

Physical Health & Development Head Start teachers educate and care for children, usually ages 3 to 5, who have not yet entered kindergarten. The Brigance Test of Basic Skills, is used as a tool in standardized assessment for identifying a student's strengths and weaknesses. The Brigance assesses reading decoding, reading comprehension, writing, listening comprehension and math. Brigance Head Start Teachers must preform assessments and screening through out the school year on the children in the classroom. •Store each child's screening or assessment history in a secure database. I am also currently a member of the Region VI (Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Louisiana, and Arkansas) Head Start Association that serves more than 120,000 infants, toddlers and preschoolers and their families and nearly 20,000 staff members. This association has incorporated and operates smoothly with participation from directors, staff, parents and friends. I am a member National Head Start Association. And a member of the Community Action Agency Opportunities Head Start that work with Oklahoma Head Start, Early Head Start, and American Indian Head Start programs serve over 20,000 children and families.
