Everlong Written by: Dave Grohl

Performed by: The Foo Fighters The song Everlong was penned during one of the lowest points in Dave Grohl's life; the Christmas of 1996. Grohl was homeless as a result of a divorce from photographer Jennifer Youngblood. On top of all of this; he had lost access to his own bank account and both his drummer and guitarist were on the verge of quitting the Foo Fighters. Despite all the trials of Mr. Grohl, he wrote this love ballad in 45 minutes.. Hello
I've waited here for you
Everlong Many people believe this song was written about the drug addictions of the late Kurt Cobain, who was a former band mate of Grohl's from the band Nirvana. This song evokes real love, the feeling of shyness, yet excitement; a feeling so strong you want it to last forever. Tone Hello
I've waited here for you
Everlong

Tonight
I throw myself into
And out of the red, out of her head she sang

Come down
And waste away with me
Down with me

Slow how
You wanted it to be
I'm over my head, out of her head she sang

[refrain]
And I wonder
When I sing along with you
If everything could ever feel this real forever
If anything could ever be this good again

The only thing I'll ever ask of you
You've got to promise not to stop when I say when
She sang

Breathe out
So I could breathe you in
Hold you in

And now
I know you've always been
Out of your head, out of my head I sang

[refrain]
And I wonder
When I sing along with you
If everything could ever feel this real forever
If anything could ever be this good again

The only thing I'll ever ask of you
You've got to promise not to stop when I say when
She sang

[refrain]
And I wonder
If everything could ever feel this real forever
If anything could ever be this good again

The only thing I'll ever ask of you
You've got to promise not to stop when I say when
She sang This talks about how good love feels. When things feel good, you do not want them to change or end. "if everything could ever feel this real forever, if anything could ever be this good again" This song has a unique style. The lines are short and use simple words which cause for a strong tone. Style Ballad A ballad is a poem or song narrorating a story in short stanzas Ballads are mostly thought of as Shakespearian style of writing not as modern day songs, but they are very similar. The author, Dave Grohl, uses a steady rythem to convey his story. He does not ryhme is lines as many others do, but he uses strong language and creative structure to make the ballad successful. As in most songs, personifications are used throughout this ballad. The first three lines are personified by saying:
"Hello
I've waited here for you
Everlong"
The author is saying "Hello", addressing the term "Everlong" as a proper noun. He acts that he is speaking to a person when everlong is neither a person nor tangible object. The Chorus repeats multiple times throughout the ballad and has some of the strongest lines within the song. The words "she sang" are also repeated throughout the song. Everlong- Foo Fighters This song is a love ballad based on the repetition and personification used towards an assumed womanly figure. Rhythem It is Written in the key of D Major, the song opens with a quiet, clean guitar playing the chords that form the basis of the verse. A fast drum beat enters, which is joined by the same chords played with distortion. hello
