Building Community, One Resident at a Time!
Introducing Intentional Programming
BY following THE INTENTIONAL PROGRAMMING MODEL we will:
stuggle, learn, and succeed at building positive communities
embrace the role of Student Affairs EDUCATOR
move from an Event Focused Model to a Relationship Focused Model
facilitate academic and social success for our students
Attention:
All Educators and Community builders
(YES, this means YOU)!
"The key to enhancing the resident's college experience is for RAs to utilize their Strengths as a guiding force in order to intentionally interact with residents and discover trends occurring within the community. Based on what RAs learn about their residents, they will direct residents to events occurring on campus or develop activities around those trends in order to have relationally engaging and educationally purposeful opportunities that connect residents to (Alfred University) outside the classroom. In addition to guiding students in their growth and development, this "interaction model" supports (Alfred University) in becoming a place where residents benefit from living in a thriving residential campus."
Dean Kennedy, PHD
Intentional Programming Guiding Statement:
We will unpack the Intentional Programming Model and We will learn the necessary skills!
Ok, we're educators and community builders, but how will we become primo-educators and primo-community builders?
Together,
We will implement
the Intentional Model Programming!
Professional Staff, Resident Directors, and Resident Assistants
YOU ARE AN EDUCATOR AND
A COMMUNITY BUILDER...
THESE ARE YOUR PRIMARY ROLES
To Reach our Goal:
We will learn
INTENTIONAL PROGRAMMING
a new way to program
that begins by creating communities
from the ground up,
one staff-to-resident interaction at a time
Keep this in mind:
Your most important roles are
EDUCATOR and COMMUNITY BUILDER!
There are two components:
Intentional Interactions....
engaging students in conversations that are deeper than your typical "HI!" (You Will Be Trained)
Hosting/Supporting Events......
Relationally Engaging Events- designed to promote development of their relationships and their sense of belonging to the residential community and the AU community
Educationally Purposeful Events - designed to address a learning need based on trends noted in the resident community
OUR GOAL: Build Positive Communities that Keep Students Engaged and Here
But, when and where will we learn those skills?
By Participating in the The 2013 RA Experience!
Reach for the Purple and Gold!
I think I smell a Learning Outcome!
Here is an OVERVIEW of the
Intentional Programming Model Requirements....
So, begining right now,
you have a Mantra:
I am an EDUCATOR and a COMMUNITY BUILDER,
I work in Student Affairs and that's what we do!
Repeat after me:
Repeat until indoctrinated!
