The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) is a political and economic union of Arab states bordering the Persian Gulf, namely Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.
Established in Abu Dhabi on 25 May 1981, the original union comprised the 630-million-acre (2,500,000 km2) Persian Gulf states of Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. The unified economic agreement between the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council was signed on 11 November 1981 in Abu Dhabi. These countries are often referred to as "the GCC states".
The main aim is to stimulate scientific and technological progress in the fields of industry, mining, agriculture, water and animal resources.
Educational & Cultural Cooperation
It aims at promoting knowledge and at eradicating illiteracy, improving education methods. The MOE meet up every two years to cooperate in the aims of propagation of knowledge and literacy.
There is also a ministry setup that presents tv and radio shows related to the people in the gulf and also shows the glorious past and heroism.
The Gulf news agency is also the part of the programmes agreement that was setup by the cooperation of the arab gulf state.
It aims at fighting diseases and promoting health awareness among citizens.
Health ministers in the Arab Gulf States hold meetings to discuss and agree on ways of achieving medical cooperation among their states.
The "Health General Secretariat" has it's headquarters in Riyadh which has been established in 1976.
Arab Gulf States take on world political problems, whether these are restricted to the Arab and Islamic arena or have a wider, international nature.
Aspects of this cooperation include:
Joint military exercises.
The establishment of a joint military force that represents all members of the AGCC .This force has a joint command authorized to immediately take action in the case of external agression.
