Transcript of The Adventure of the Speckled Band by Arthur Conan Doyle

Holmes' client, Helen Stoner, comes to visit him and Dr. Watson to seek their advice on her sister's murder. After hearing her story about her soon to be wed sister being murdered, Holmes and Watson go with Helen to her house where her and her stepfather live, and she has been staying in the room where her sister died. They arrange for Helen to spend the night in another bedroom, and without Dr. Roylott's knowledge, they sneak into Helen's previous room. They hear the whistle and see that the sister's last words "the speckled band" were referring to "a swamp adder, the deadliest snake in India." Holmes attacks the snake with a walking stick and the snake is sent back toward it's home in Dr. Roylott's room, where it injects its venom into the murderous physician.
