Using Blogs for Social Interaction
Creating a Post
Writing a post is similar to writing in common word processors.

You can insert video and images directly into the document.

Preview your post by clicking “Preview” at the top right.

Deciding which blog works for you
There are many differing types of blog platforms available online.
Each has their advantages and disadvantages.
For our training today, we will focus on how to create a blog using Blogger.

Creating a New Blog From Scratch
Click on the “New Blog” button at the top left.

Select your theme (this can be changed later).

From here, you can give your blog a title, and a custom domain name.

Advanced Options For Creating Blog Posts
Using Overview
Use Overview to view your statistics and updates.
Layout and Content Changes
From the “Overview” tab, click “Layout” on the left side of the page.

You can rearrange the boxes to your liking, and even include various add-ons from 3rd party developers.

Once you have created a google account, you will be able to sign in and see the page shown here on the right.


Overview is the “snapshot” of your blog.
It allows you to see updates on your blog, including:

Comments
Total Views
Posts
Followers

To see the advanced options, look at the right side of the page.

Here you can label your post for easier searching, select when to publish a post, and even tag it with a location.

You can also embed non-native content using the HTML option.
You can rearrange the blog to your liking by editing the layout.
Much like other social sites, blogs allow students and instructors to collaborate and communicate through comments.
You can comment on your own posts by clicking on the “Comments” hyperlink under each post.

You can also click to be notified whenever someone responds.

Check statistics on who is interacting under the “Stats” tab.
Creating an Interactive and Supplementary Tool
Don't work against yourself!
Using a blog can help supplement standard curriculum material with greater interactivity.

The uses of a blog are ubiquitous in learning and connecting with students.

Blogs provide an excellent free tool for providing external content.
