digital technologies have transformed how journalism is created and delivered
all have a stake in the survival of reliable journalism -- without it democracy fails
from 1990s effort to encapsulate best journalism ethics
1) seek truth & report as fully as you can
2) act independently
3) minimize harm
the opening of the information system to all means those who make the news will also cover it
truth is still the driving force of journalism ... yet how identify so much harder
more sources, not just both sides
and rather than "objectivity" ... self-reflexivity?
different kinds of truth telling
different kinds of media, different stories
1) seek truth and report it as fully as possible
2) be transparent
3) engage community

the massive changes in the contexts in which journalism occurs require a reassessment... of ethical foundations
who is doing the journalism
with what technology?

not only access but.... speed, speed, speed
transparency-- about how journalism is done, about power systems controlling info, etc
