My Personal Philosophy
Many things that I have learned from my parents and Church guide my behavior and thoughts. A few things my parents have taught me are to tell the truth no matter what, to try my best until the end, to treat everybody with respect, and to give back to those in need. Since I was very young, they continuously told me that I was very fortunate to have been born in Canada, that we should always be thankful for what we have, and not to take things for granted. Because I am Christian, I believe that we were created by God and we should obey his commandments. My beliefs help guide my behavior and how I interact with people on a daily basis. One of my favourite quotes is, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life”-John 3:16. I am very grateful that my parents have instilled these beliefs in me.
My Personal Literary Influences
I believe that reading is very important and many pieces of writing have influenced me throughout my lifetime. They have each taught me important lessons that I will treasure forever.
taught me to fight until the end.
The Hunger Games
taught me to stand up for what I believe in.
taught me how to be brave and selfless.
taught me that although technology is great, we cannot focus our lives on it.
Between Shades of Gray
taught me how to stay strong and always have hope, even in tough situations. In my opinion, reading is essential in life. It sparks our imagination, teaches us new things, and gives us new hope. In those hard times, reading can be an escape. Books are like a friend that we can immerse ourselves into. They also can put perspective in what we cannot see ourselves. Those are just a few books that have moved me and I will continue to enjoy reading for the rest of my life.
My Personal History
The people that have influenced me the most are my parents and their family history spans three continents. My maternal and paternal grandparents are Chinese and were born in China. My dad’s parents then immigrated to Canada and he was born in Vancouver. On the other hand, my maternal grandparents immigrated to Peru and had my mom in Lima. My mom’s family eventually moved to Canada to give the 6 children a better future. I am one of two children, born to my parents. Although my parents are both Chinese, my sister and I were raised with Western traditions and customs. My parents have been two of the most influential people in my life. They have taught me uncountable lessons, including how to live my life. They have created me into the person I am today. They were the ones who taught me right from wrong, and how to conduct myself in daily life. To this day, my parents continue to teach me life lessons and more about my family history.
Me, Me, Me Mini Project
There are various places in the world that have significant value to me. First, is Harrison Hot Springs in BC, Canada. When I was younger, my family used to go there every summer with my cousins. I always looked forward to going there because it was so peaceful and tranquil. One very special memory from Harrison Hot Springs that I have is catching tadpoles. My family and I were walking one day when we discovered a tadpole pond! There were hundreds of them swimming around. My cousin had an empty water bottle, so we decided to catch some of them. After a couple hours, we returned them back to their pond, unharmed. Another place other than Harrison Hot Springs that is very special to me is Willingdon Church. It is the church I have attended since I was 4. It is there that I have learned almost everything I know about the Bible and how to live my life as a Christian. Although there are many other places in the world that are important to me, these are the two that are most meaningful.
